Here are links to cave diving documentaries for those following the rescue effort in Thailand. I’m fascinated and terrified by the concept, please post links to other informative videos If you know of any.

Diving Into the Unknown

Deepest Ice Caves

GoPro: “Place of Fear” | Searching The Maya Underworld | Part I

Rescue 911 - Episode 202 - "Scuba Cave" (Part 1 of 2)

Rescue 911 Part 2...CPR has changed a lot since 1990

ETA: I remember watching the Rescue 911 episode as a kid. The content of that one is definitely relevant to the risks the kids being led out of the Tham Luang Cave are facing

There’s one I saw awhile back about a deep hole in South America. One guy died and it’s all on video i wish I could remember the name, it was fascinating. The audio is crazy. I’ll google and post when I find it

It’s so simple, even a caveman could do it.

quote:

He said they were able to free Jones initially using a rope-pulley system. At that point, Jones had been hanging, headfirst, at a 70- or 80-degree angle for more than eight hours, said Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Tom Hodgson.

It was around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday when rescuers got him loose. They were able to give him an IV, food and water. He also received a needed morale boost after he was able to talk to his wife over a police radio.

For a few hours there were sighs of tentative relief. They finally cracked open the boxes of pizza and cases of water, and broke out in smiles suggesting the worst was over.

That only lasted for a few hours.

Once Jones was free of the 18-by-10-inch crevice, rescuers said an "equipment failure" caused the rope system that was hoisting the man out of the cave to drop him back into the same, narrow gap.

Jesus Christ. They got the guy out and he slipped right back in and ended up dying.

The guy's name was David Shaw and it was in Africa.

I wouldn't call myself claustrophobic, but that is one of the most terrifying things I can imagine.

Couple that with underwater and I can't think of anything worse.

I went through a cave in Thailand once. It was pretty damn creepy. It wasn't the same cave as the lost kids. It was somewhere in central Thailand. We were trying to go somewhere else and we ended up in a Tuk-Tuk and we had no idea where we were going. We ended up at a place that wasn't very touristy. Inside that cave somebody could have easily killed me and my buddy and no one would have any clue. The scary pary was looking down those dark holes and having no clue how far the drop was.

The nutty putty thing was in a book I was reading a few years ago, it's effectively killed any desire for me to go caving.

I watched several due to following the Thailand story. This one REALLY had me a panic. The ending is very horrific.

ETA... I see this story was already mentioned. So tragic.

This story has me fascinated and terrified; I can't imagine being somewhere that required backing out through such an opening.

Here's a video I found of the "Birth Canal" section of Nutty Putty:
