$1 per drink if just drinking.

20% of total is there is food involved.

I just take 10% of the total and double it, easy calculation.

I've worked as a delivery driver and waiter before, and done a little bartending. I was tipping 20% when 15% was still the standard. Looks like I might have to up it to 25% to stay ahead of the game.

ETA- I'm a popular guy at the places I frequent because of this. My glass is never empty and I get free "samples" of new kegs that come in, new menu items they are working on, it's like being in the mafia or something. I know it's not a big deal, but it's all I've got to feel important in this world.

20% unless the service sucks. 25-30% if it's awesome and I'm buzzed.

I am critical, a I was in the industry throughout my time in college.

But I'm also generous for the same reason. I expect good service.

i typically spend $10 or so on myself when i go out to eat. My $2 tip should be plenty. if i get alcohol, i'll bump it up to $3-4. that's well into the 20% range. eff all you haters that think i should give more than that. a tip should not equate the price of the bill.

I really don't want to eat anywhere that has a "sneeze guard." I had never heard that before. What's next - a fly guard?

There is no situation that warrants 0 tip. Mainly because in that case they may have just thought I forgot, or was my habit not to tip. Very few times I have had service so bad I've given a few cents as a tip to send a message. To do this it has to be beyond bad.... never coming to check on us, not bringing drinks out, total apathy, giving attitude any time we ask for something...basically a general frick you attitude

at least 20% at a restaurant

I give the valet and bellhop each a $20 when I arrive at a hotel and $10 each when I check out. You get rewarded with some good help and if you have your car, maybe they will keep it out front.

I keep two dollar bills for tips too. I always tip cash, unless I'm caught without it which is rare.

I have an aunt who always wants to buy when you eat out with her, but she is a terrible tipper. I'm always having to slide some money to the server.

At least 20% at a restaurant and a $1.00 per drink at a bar. If I get attitude from a server they will get less.

usally 17-20% of pre taxed total. hardly ever sit there and ever bust out a calculator. Usually try to round out the bill to some type of number that makes sense.

Tipping depends on quality of service. Excellent service I would tip 20-25%
Good service maybe 17-18%
Average service 15%
Less than average maybe 10%
Piss poor service 50 cents.

I tip 18-20% because I don’t want to be seen as a cheap a-hole, but 15% should still be standard because of food/drink cost inflation.

I view tipping as a positive response system. Kind of like giving a treat to a dog for doing something you told it to do. Never really worked as well as hitting the dog with a rolled up newspaper. So I propose we go with a negative response system. Do a good job, we go on with our lives. Take too long to refill my glass, I key your car.

I consider myself a good tipper. However,I don't care for the buffet type places, Golden Corral, Western Sizzlin',etc where you pay first and then if you charge/debit there's the line for tip. I really don't want to tip before I've even sat down.

Dining out - take pre-tax total, divide it by 10

Take that amount, divide by 2

Add two amounts together, round up so total bill equals whole dollars

For example:

Bill is $67.02 before tax and $73.41 after tax.

10 percent pre-tax - $6.70

Half of that amount - $3.35

Add them together - $10.05

Add to after tax bill = $83.46. Add additional 54 cents to tip to get total bill to $84.

Drinks (at a bar, etc)

If they simply hand me a bottle or can - nothing each time, but will throw a buck or two their way when I leave

If they pour/make a drink - $1 per drink regardless of cost. If it's an insanely complex drink, $2 per drink (this only happens when out with my wife, no pics, and the stupid things she drinks)

Uber - Usually $2 cash

Bellboys, porters, etc - $1 per bag

Valets - $2 when they bring my car so I can leave

If the service is reasonable, minimum 15%, and I round up to make the total bill an even dollar amount.

I can't think of a single time in at least 5 years that I've tipped less than 15%.
