for a single guy like me yeah it’s a pretty large amount. Seems like it would be tough if I had to raise a family on it though

highly depends on for who and where.

Government job, I’m gonna need $150k minimum.
Outside of the South, I’m gonna need closer to $200k

I don't think it matters anymore, that's not a "large" amount of money, anywhere. It may be a lot more than what others make in the area, but prices for goods aren't discounted because you live in Ballscratch, Mississippi.

you have pride in your worth per hour?

Meh.

I like my salary and want to contunously increase it because of what it provides for my family, but I don't hold a sense of pride over the number. Chest-beating over salary is silly "keeping up with the Joneses" mentality.

ETA

That said, I did set a salary goal when I was young and when I hit it I felt a sense of pride, so maybe I'm a little full of shite

My first job paid me $1.74 per hour. 48,000 annually woulda been a fortune.

Price out a piece of property similar to your own in your area/compare what your place will sell for now vs. 10 years ago.

Now look to see if your salary has appreciated a comparable amount.

could go on all day with different col comparisons, let's say I make $100k a year since that was thrown out, how far do you think that would get you living in Manhattan(NY,) verses, let's say, Mansfield. La?

I don’t understand how someone could live on anything less than $100,000/year. Seems impossible.

Yet 70% of household incomes in the US are less than 100k.

Individuals making over 100k make up less than 16% of the population.

If you measure your annual salary in relation to it's purchasing power of fast food, here's a way to double your salary.....

Wife and I live just outside Lafayette. I'm at $52K and she makes $24K. We have a decent home, two cars, our kids are in private school and we definitely aren't struggling.

I don't need that brand new Ford Raptor, Yukon Denali, and $500K home

Just seems impossible to me. Maybe I'm wasteful

Gotta love the OT.

Answer: yes it is. Considering your average American makes considerably less than that. Yes, $100k is still a lot.

After 15-20 minutes of work, I should have enough money to walk into any average fast food joint and order a meal. That would be about $5-$8.

Have you priced a fast food meal lately?

Based upon your research, I would suggest you get a job at a fast food place that allows you to make your own fast food meal for "free."

That would put my hourly wage at $24-$32. Annual salary would be $48,000-$64,000, assuming a 40 hour work week and 50 weeks/yr worked.

Kind of blows my mind that this annual salary I came to isn’t even that high!

Hope you don't get hungry before Tax Freedom Day which occurred on May 31st this year.

The same OT that thinks everyone should be a welder and likes the idea of living in a trailer. Lots of bullshite on here.
