Your loser drunk, father of four, brother in law

Continues to get into it with his wife, after both have been drinking, and the police show up to the point child services comes in to take their four children away.
Do you let child services put your nieces and nephew in a home or take them in, knowing it is for a minimum of 6 months?
In before your family is trash

Depends on if they're quiet or not.

Take them in.
Just because the parents are garbage ducks doesn't mean they need to be punished.

If it’s something you think you and your family can handle, then by all means take them in

Unless you too are trash (probably so) you take them in.

Does the state give you money to help out?

How old are they and how bad of an influence will they be on your kids? This would be my only hesitation.
Posted on 1/7/20 at 5:51 pm to 3morereps
Do the kids have any marketable skills or future revenue opportunities?

Unless you have kids younger than them and suspect that any of the nieces/nephews might be a danger, you take them in.

If you were these kids, what would you want someone to do? I really respect people who are kind and loving to anyone in a horrible situation that isn't their fault.

take them in and start a band.

Actually, after thinking about this a little more, this really isn’t an easy yes or no. There are lots of things you need to consider.
We have four kids of my own plus a niece who we took custody of when she was 15. She’s 20 now and still lives with us while going to CC. It has worked out, but it took a great deal of work to integrate her into our family. She was effectively an only child so she had to get used to suddenly having siblings (from a practical standpoint). She had to learn the ways we did things. She needed a ton of help with school. It was exhausting at times and she was just one kid.
You’d be integrating four.
You need to consider the effects that this will have on your wife/kids (if any). Having four of our own plus one has been (and still is) exhausting. This project will likely be even more so. You should talk to all of them, individually and as a group.
Also understand that, while the expectation is that this is temporary, you need to be prepared for possibility of this being a permanent arrangement. If your BIL and sis don’t get their acts together, they could lose custody permanently. My wife and I fostered briefly and we saw this a few times. Mom goes on “vacation” and when she gets out, goes AWOL or ramps up whatever vice got her sent away.
Lots to think about, they are family and you should try to do right by them IMO, but not at the expense of your own kids or your marriage.
Good on you for even considering this. Lots of people wouldn’t. I wish you the best of luck!

Yes without a doubt. They are blood and their shite father is not their fault. If you at all can you should.

If you have financial means and it won't hurt any kids you have already.....take them in.

If you're the sassy gay uncle it has the makings of a Netflix series.
Seriously, yes if at all possible.
