As someone who has been to med school and had to pay for it myself, it's an effort thing. The only people I know who couldn't pass where either bottom end affirmative action admits or those going for free with the parents footing the bills. It's really not that hard to pass. Getting in is the hard part.

Nope, try relying on connections to get matched from Residency to a Hospital lol. Connections have 0 to do with that. I know personally how each got it. None of these people knew anyone at the company they went to work at. There is 1 I am unsure of if they got it or not. I don't know if they knew anyone or not. The other 5 did not.

From my understanding, you can apply USMD if you withdraw from DO. Probably the best route after he does some soul-searching. I would probably go to the military in his scenario.

He had a better chance of getting into medical school than CRNA school.

Besides he's not qualified, he is not a RN with a bachelor's degree, and with minimum 2yrs years ICU experience ( more years, the better chance of getting in).

If he had difficulties w/ of Medical school, CRNA isn't a guarantee either.

First, I thought of this last night but didn't come back to is he actually might not want to have anything to do with medicine now. Working around and with docs constantly may be soul-crushing for him.

It is important to remember he didn't not get into med school, he just didn't flourish. OP never mentioned which med school so it is possible he was just out of his depth at that school and would have been fine at another one. For all I know he was at a school like Hopkins and would have been a star at a school like USC-G.

CRNA would not be a short road but with a BS and some med school in his brain and on his CV he could fast track his ADN and BSN because of his BS credits. Micro, anatomy, chem, etc should be child play to him. He would also be working and making money in a short amount of time. He was still a long way from making money as a doc as well.

Doctors and residents from a school will absolutely choose new residents from their school, especially if they know them. Everyone is qualified if they make it that far.

You sound like a pipe fitter that thinks he knows shite about how medicine or investment banking work

Navy or Air Force as an 0-2 Intelligence officer

One of the smartest guys I've ever known was a naval intelligence officer. He could tell you every officer on the Russian subs he was in charge of tracking and how they liked their coffee. I don't know the test score requirements for those intelligence officer positions, but flunking out of med school can't be a good start.

You don’t figure shite out in college. You figure shite out gradually from day 1 by your parents allowing you to increasingly navigate different obstacles and take on more and more responsibilities. College is a test to see if your parents stewarded you well.

Sorry, in some places we call them naturopathic physicians NP. Although they do have a doctorate in naturopathy ND.

Post-grad aged son fails out of medical school (cannot pass level exams).

Smart kid just not ready to be a doctor.

You have already sent him and paid for the best undergrad (private) college he could get into. Footed the whole bill, room and board, etc.

Then pay for 2 yrs of med school. Again, apt, books, stipend, etc. The kid is debt free.

He fails. Wasn't an effort thing. No biggie. It happens. Some people aren't meant to do certain things.
This perfectly describes a guy who married a friend of my wife and me. He makes a shite ton of money selling surgical devices now.

You've gotten some good advice here. Let the kid spend a year or two working "normal" jobs and see what he likes/doesn't like. It might reignite a passion in medicine or he might find a job he really loves. I'm a huge proponent of doing every job you can think of when you're young and don't have a lot of responsibilities. He won't know until he tries out some different options.

I feel that everyone should have to do a "service job" at some point, even if just for a few months, whether that be Ubering, Door Dash, Waiter/Waitress, retail, hotel, etc..

I think it helps with social skills and learning to deal with difficult people. But more than that, it gives respect for what those people do, what they put up with, and makes you appreciate those people more/treat them better.
