Why does THAT matter? Love is love

He's in a wheelchair. Why would anyone not want their child to be with someone in a wheelchair?
A lot of people are more concerned with what you see then how they feel.

My sons-in-law have to be able to outrun my grandkids.

This. If my daughter is ok with the situation and is happy, it is none of my business.

Dad seems like a complete idiot who probably thinks you can pass on a spinal cord injury.

taking care of someone handicapped is something he probably didn’t think of.
The guy is likely independent with everything he does in life.
Having rehabbed a bunch of these folks over the years if it really is just a lower spinal cord injury impacting only the legs young people adapt very well. The guy is probably stronger in the upper body than 95+ percent of this board after 15 years of adaptation.
Add to the fact that he has a great job and amazing resources and he likely leads a pretty normal life. I’d bet my house that most reservations about his ability to take care of himself and the perceived increased care required from the daughter are born out of ignorance as to what exactly a lot of WC bound people are capable of.

Then again, maybe the dad is thinking about his daughter's long term commitment to this man.
As this guy ages and health/strength, etc. diminishes, that will put way more work on is daughter to care for her husband.

At the age where most elderly folks start tripping and falling and really becoming a burden, this baw will likely keep transferring to his chair sans ego.

I can see both sides on the coin on this. Personally, however, I would give the guy a chance. I would express my concerns in a level-headed fashion. I would like to hear their responses and plans. The fact that the dad even refuses to meet the guy makes him sound like a douchebag to me. At least meet and talk to the guy and get to know him first.

is his name Timmy by any chance?

My good friend has been dating someone in a wheelchair. When I first found out I was kind of confused and just thought why?

They’re serious now and so she told her dad who is irate. He says she shouldn’t be with him and the the guy should only be with other handicapped ppl. The dad told her she was ruining the family. He’s refused to even meet the boyfriend (who will likely become son in law).
I don't think any of this story is true.

I’m not saying he’s right but the father I’m sure wants a man who can protect and provide for his daughter. Not being able to walk could make both more difficult.
