Apparently this has re-ignited a debate on the value of abstract art.

An art piece by an American graffiti artist showcased in South Korea was damaged by a couple in their 20s who thought the sets of paint and brushes laid in front of the artwork was for spectators' use.

1. I may well have thought the same thing.
2. They can't make it any uglier really.

It doesn't look like they messed it up at all imo.

I dont see any difference between the before and after

Apart from a few very famous pieces, high end art just seems like a way to launder money.

How the hell was anybody supposed to know that. Art is so dumb.

Why the frick would they have paint and paint brushes in front of it like that if they weren't for use. I wouldn't have done it but I could see how others would assume that's for participation.
Edit: nevermind, I see they have it roped off in the pic posted above now. Yea, that's dumb on the tourists' part.

You can value it that much, but who's gonna write that check?

They better be glad this wasn't in North Korea

They only roped it off after it happened

It should be worth more now since it has more paint on it. Simple economics. They did them a solid.

It's now a new piece which captures the innocence of youth haphazardly placing their mark on an old canvas of marks overvalued by the previous authors. Truly a metaphor for our shitty new generation replacing the shitty people before it. I value it at $500,000 (because art) and now the gallery owes this couple $60,000

Some rich person that wants to show off I guess. There have been blank canvases painted white that have been sold for even more money. It’s all about who the artist is.
Probably some money laundering going on in certain instances.
