If you live in BR, you probably don’t have the option to leave. Otherwise, why would you be living in BR?

Students being the exception.

It's a Category 1.

I'm undecided if I need to take the Hanging Begonia Pots down from the eves and I'm a mile from the lake. Pretty sure BTR is gonna be okay.

Yep, I'm trying to decide if i'm even going to turn over the patio furniture and take the hanging plants down.

BR is a pretty safe spot to be for a hurricane, especially if you live in an older neighborhood (pre-1980s).

The odds of your home flooding are very low, odds of substantial wind damage are greatly reduced relative to places further south, and the biggest issue is prolonged power outages from downed tree limbs.

Those storms still haven’t hit the hot shallow water in the Gulf. They gonna’ be at least CAT 1 but ai wonmt be surprised if they blow up into more severe storms at the last minute. That water in the GUlf is warm AF.

I guess it just depends on where you live. Olga was barely a tropical storm when it rolled through and wreaked havoc in the Mandeville area in October. Had 2-3 houses with trees in them on my neighborhood.

We live in Woodland Ridge. Obviously tons of trees. That's the biggest risk to us. We've got a few house hitters but they're 40+ year old live oaks that would take a lot to take down.

Our house sits on a small ridge so not a major flooding concern.

With 2 storms in the gulf bearing down on the LA coast and an active pandemic, those still aren’t the greatest danger to people in BR or NOLA.

There is never a storm related reason to leave BR area. Its too far inland to sustain any major damage. Some trees will fall, some power will go out, it will likely rain some.

I don't know man. A big storm like Katrina on the right path would rip BR a new one.

We just haven't had that happen in my lifetime. Gustav was probably the worst. Katrina ripped up places in Mississippi further inland than BR.

St George is the safe haven for Baton Rouge. That includes hurricanes and crime. We locked and loaded in Shenandoah. We riding dirty up in here.

Leaving our home on Highland near kenilworth in BR and going shelter with some friends at their house on highland in st George. I heard it’s safer two miles down the road :).

They are better than any of his other predictions but that isn't a very high bar.

Most powerful in BR was Andrew in 1992 when gusts of 105 mph littered the city with oaks but power outages were manageable. Sustained winds reached 90 mph for an hour or so.

Katrina in 2005 actually made little impact on BR — too far to the East. Rita was too far West and also had little impact.

Gustav on Labor Day 2007 might have been the most destructive ever in BR. It was pretty much a direct hit. Winds of 90 mph but the infrastructure and power went to shite. Power out for a week or more in many areas.

By the way, each successive storm takes out more and more older, tall trees within the city and lessens power outage impacts.
