If you keep cars you bought new for 12-20 years like I do, get the extended warranty. I’ve never failed to have them cover more than I’ve paid.
I will never own another Volkswagen. Mercedes are not worth the money to keep running. Stock engines are fine. Cars are have gotten over complicated but are generally better than ever.

And when that BMW breaks down, get your wallet ready to fork out some money!
If one owns a BMW out of warranty it doesn't have to be a money sink if you are smart about it. While I have been somewhat insulated from the cost because I can wrench and not scared to dive into something like a double VANOS system BMW repair/maintenance doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. BMW has one of the strongest aftermarket supports of stock parts of non-US cars. You can get OE parts at significant discounts and aftermarket often made by the OEMs like Bosch. Often there are off the shelf solutions for pattern issues with the popular models sometimes replacing composite parts with metal. Also, find your local Indy mechanic while their hourly rates may not be that much cheaper than the dealership they often know ways to save you big money on parts. Wedge Kyes aka WK Motorwerks in Baton Rouge does a good job.

Having a truck is pointless and obnoxious unless you use it to haul shite.
I tend to agree with this statement but would edit it to super duties and dualies. I’d like to have a regular size truck to keep my fishing kayak in but it’s not practical. If you ain’t got a frickin farm or a fifth wheel, why you dickin up traffic with your nonsense in the passing lane? Oh well, baws will be baws.

Is it true they come off the assembly line without turn signals?
Not to worry, simple blinker fluid flush and refill, that'll be $2000 please.

I've owned three Hondas, two Subarus, a Mazda, three VWs, two Jeep XJs, a Ford F250 (99 PS), an infinity, a Nissan truck, and an Audi, and they were all very reliable except the Audi (1985) and Mazda (1991 RX7 rotor seals went at 105k).
Eliminating those two, I couldn't really pick one that stood out as the most reliable, except for the fact that the Ford is still basically perfect despite being over 20 years old, and despite being a diesel I've put very little maintenance into it--glow plugs once and changed own oil/filters.
Anyway, I guess it's unpopular to say Fords are reliable.

I drive a Volvo S60. It's probably the least controversial car on the road right now. I can't think of a single way it would offend anyone in terms of looks or performance. It certainly won't wow anyone either.

My neighbor is a short preacher with a giant arse truck that takes up too much of the street when he parks in it.
In the past three years they've lived across the street, never once have I seen anything in the back of his truck.

quote:Agreed. We have two grands and a cherokee currently. I've been buying Jeep since mid 90's and never had anything abnormal whatsoever, knock on wood. My only complaint from the earlier years I owned was the interior accessories were cheap and/or not put together well. Knobs would fall off or plastic frame on back of seat would pop out etc. That has not been the case at all for the more recent ones I've had. I think the hatred stems from them being overpriced is some people's opinion but those same people have no problem paying 60k+ for a pickem up truck.
Preach. I’ve owned two Wranglers, a couple of Grand Cherokees, and several in my family have had great luck with the brand. Planning on getting a Gladiator in a few years.

Kind of agree with OP on the 911. It looks better in person, but I’d rather the targa for roofless options.
Guess my “controversial” opinion would just be that Chrysler/FCA is a reliable brand. For the last 10 years they’ve made great vehicles. I drive an Alfa and can’t believe people pass on them for a 3 series or C class. The Giulia performs so much better and costs less.

This morning, I drove my 1930 Model A pickup to get some breakfast. Young girl at the counter asked "does it have heat?" When I said "no," she said "I'm sure it has air conditioning then."

I’m a two tone fan too.
Jolie loves the back windows.

The avalanche is an underrated vehicle.
Loved mine. Rode and drove better than a pickup yet could haul plenty in the box. Box could be locked like a massive trunk if one left the covers on. Covers off haul refrigerators or washer/dryers. Towed as much as a half ton pickup. (Towed bobcats and mini excavators with mine with no trouble.)
Awesome trucks. Lower priced crew cab half tons is what killed the sales. Have great resale as well.
eta-Hauled a dozen sheets of drywall from HD. Folded the back seat and was able to close the tailgate as it looked like rain. Sheetrock stayed dry and it rode even better. Wasn't squatting at all so there was plenty of capacity there. Old guy helping load was amazed I could close the tailgate. Guess he never saw an Avi commerical.

If they do they need to fix that great expanse of plastic that always turned grey about 5 miles off the lot.
In later years they made the painted trim used on the Escalade EXT available as on option on the Avi.

The price of new trucks in 2019 is as reasonable as it has ever been

You’ll never be able to afford one, so don’t worry about it.

My loaded 2000 extended cab Silverado was 32.5 sticker iirc. Obviously loaded in 2000 wasn't as loaded as now but I'd bet that matches up fairly well compared to inflation.
