Apparently the USS mason has some history with these frickers, including being the second time ever that these air defense systems had had to defend against a legit attack.

The Saudis spent almost a decade bombing Yemen. They lost. North Yemen also defeated the Egyptians when they intervened.

These are very tough people who love war, and are good at it. They’re also not going to listen to anyone else. They’ll stop firing missiles when the Israelis pull out of Gaza.

The attack was at midnight localtime and the first report was of a fire on a ship at that location.

Here's the Al Jazeera coverage that mentions more about the group thought to have fired the missile.

I’m currently listening to Peter Zeihan’s latest book and I just got to the chapter where he described the global economic crises that almost happened because Iran and Iraq sunk 12 of their own ships in the 80’s.

He laid out what would happen if some belligerent countries stopped accepting free passage of commerce ships through international waters. In short, economic collapse.

If Yemen pulls this stunt one more time, America (with the support of the entire globe) will turn that country to glass. No winning hearts and minds, straight up flattening

Then we should go on a WWII style Russian city remodeling campaign.

No. We need to learn from past experiences for once. We just fought and lost to a bunch of cave dwellers in Afghanistan. Don't repeat that mistake. Learn from it.

Turn SF and the CIA paramilitary dudes loose. Establish some small bases. Make friends with the guys locally that hate the Houthis. I don't know who they are but it's always someone. Arm and train those guys and support them with air power. Let them frick those dudes up. Sit back and watch. Profit.

That’s none of our concern.

Depends on whether the big guys 10% deal is in place yet. Can’t start the next war until the paperwork is complete.

We need to learn police actions in Middle Eastern countries don’t work. If you decide to go to war with these type of people you need to commit genocide to win. If you aren’t willing to do that then you don’t go to war, instead you just bomb some target and call it even.

This has to be sarcasm, right? This is exactly what the US did in Afghanistan in the 80s and it worked out great for us then...
