WWL: Say it ain't so! No grilling, no boiling at LSU tailgate?

Propane burners firing up pots of boiled shrimp or jambalaya, and grills and smokers cooking up sizzling andouille sausages, char-broiled oysters, or cochon de lait are all fixtures of LSU tailgating. But the record drought has the university asking its gourmet fans to keep the open flames in check.
"Due to the unprecedented fire conditions across Louisiana, a state-wide burn ban remains in effect for this weekend’s LSU Football home opener," the school said in a statement. "As a result, fans are asked to comply with the state fire marshal’s order and to tailgate safely with no open flames Saturday."
"Wildfires are still burning across our state. Hundreds of firefighters are still working hard to extinguish those fires and there’s a grave concern more can develop," said State Fire Marshal Chief Dan Wallis.
LSU is encouraging fans who plan to tailgate this weekend at the football home opener vs. Grambling to find "alternative catering options," and recommends checking with LSU Athletics restaurant and grocery store partners.

There’s no risk of wildfires from around LSU’s campus. That’s as stupid as Covid masks

I came in here ready to be outraged. But that’s probably a good idea considering the fire risk. We all know the drunk coonasses can’t be trusted.
ETA if the fire risk is BS I take that back idk how bad it is in BR.

You can grill but they ask you do so on pavement.
You could probably get by throwing down a sacrificial 1/2 sheet of sheetrock also on grass.
Firepits and other open flame devices are what they are saying to not use.

The burn ban does not state you cannot grill or barbecue

As a reminder, the active burn ban order in effect as of August 25, 2023, at 12 p.m., prohibits ALL private burning, with no limitations, pursuant to authority under R.S. 40:1602. This burn ban order coincides with a separate burn ban order issued by LDAF prohibiting all agricultural burning including but not limited to prescribed burning. However, Louisiana residents can resume outdoor cooking with safety measures in place. These measures include using contained cooking equipment like grills and smokers, designed for cooking purposes only, on a flame-resistant surface with a water source or fire extinguisher nearby. The fuel source for this equipment (propane, charcoal, pellets, etc.) is not a factor in its acceptable use. The use of open flames in fire pits, campfires, barrels, bonfires, burn piles, and like open burning is still prohibited.

Good to know the large oak trees on campus have no shot of catching fire despite being historically dry

Tape an electrical cord to your grill.
