Yes. A separate ID from your state issued DL.

Not necessarily. You can get a real ID-compliant driver's license IIRC.

And if the people do their jobs they would verify you are who you say you are for that vote to count. At least in some states common sense prevails and you are at least asked for an ID before casting a vote.

Louisiana is one of many states which had extensions given to them. It is currently compliant and is issuing Real IDs; I think 13 other states still have extensions.

DMV wouldn’t issue me one because my DL has my middle name and the paperwork I brought only had my middle initial. DUMB.

I thought they were forcing state ID's to be compliant. Didn't know it would be a separate ID.

Some states offer a choice between the regular license they previously had and this new thing. I just kept my old regular license when I renewed. It says in red "Not for federal identification" across it.

I’ve shown my Id in every election since 1980, you obviously have never voted!

. Won’t necessarily help anything. The reading comprehension of the vast majority of people in this state is in the gutter. I have encountered more downright stupid people this week than the law should allow.

No, In LA you can upgrade your DL to TSA/Homeland Security standards and you will not need additional card.

This would not be necessary if we did not have states that issue DL's to anybody with a pulse and little to no verification of identity...

That's just NOT how it works. If you don't present photo ID, you can sign an affidavit saying that you are who you say you are. Nothing more is done to verify who you say you are. You vote, but your vote is subject to legal challenge. Now, this challenge can come from anybody, including the commissioners at the polling places. In absolutely no way, though, are you required to present an ID at any point as a prerequisite for your vote to count in Louisiana. If you don't have an ID and nobody challenges your affidavit, the affidavit is all that is required.

Kentucky got an extension but they’re going to start issuing them next year. You have the choice between the Real ID and the regular license.

The biggest complaint was they didn’t want the government to have that much information on them (because of the Real ID security measures).

People at the polling places definitely ask for it and I’d be willing to bet while it probably doesn’t stop every single person from committing voter fraud it definitely stops people from even trying.

It’s an excuse to charge more for your DL. I got mine renewed the year before LA started offering them. My wife got hers the year after. My DL is identical to hers except for a little star on the corner. That’s it. Holograms, layout, etc are identical.

I’ve got a six year renewal and am not paying again to renew because they don’t extend the term. I just sent off my passport application as I’ll be traveling next year.
