I expect a call offering OT on Christmas morning, I suspect I'll have had enough of our guests by then

I get 2.5x normal pay for holidays worked

I had a brother in law who had a government job in a white collar type of environment. On Thanksgiving and Christmas, he’d occasionally excuse himself and read and send a few emails. He would claim 8 hours of holiday pay. Everyone on the team did it. There was pressure to play along because you’d ruin it for everyone if you didn’t claim 8 hours for 10 minutes of work.

Yeah, I don't do that. But it is salary so I'll get 8 hours for whatever I work plus the premium pay.

I enjoy it. Work early AM hours, usually get food from one of our ships. Its akin to being a lighthouse attendant most of the time. Just communicate with ships via radio. Probably have two hours of work.

Am I also getting my Holiday pay? Yeah, I would do that.
When I worked at the Steel Mill, I always worked holidays, If I wasn't scheduled for it, I would always take the place of one of the other crane operators that wanted to be off. It was big money to me.

Kind of a pay cut but if I can use it as an excuse to not have to do Christmas I’m down

Yeah, I usually don't mind skipping out on adult guests, just never want to disappoint kids.

Not taking a paycut to work a holiday.

ETA Now when the kids are older, and if it's something I enjoy doing, maybe. But right now, no you couldn't pay me to miss Christmas morning with my kids.

Yes. Nothing else to do. Also, depends on the duties. Not cleaning toilets, but other activities could be fun.
