No, Trump is correct that Greenland is of great interest to the United States, with its location and minerals present, it’s a great idea that Trump has to get it like Alaska was back in the 1860s. If the Cold War still happened, imagine how that would have changed the dynamics if Russia controlled Alaska. Just look at the flight patterns from Anchorage to realize that that is probably the most important and strategically located airport in the world:

Where would an Anchorage scale city and airport be located? Nuuk?

It doesn’t matter if it’s not for sale.

It’s part of the United States if we just show up and say it is.

Having flown over it. No. Iceland isn't much further.

They could either sell it to us or wait for the Russians to take it.

If it becomes easier to travel to, absolutely. Getting there seems like a bitch and they don't have a whole lot of tourism infrastructure.

Nanortalik. I would feel obligated to go there since I have been to the other 50 (or 57, depending on who's counting) states.

They don't have a lot of any infrastructure.....

I don't think you can get between their major "towns" without a boat or plane.

Qaqortoq is more likely- Nuuk freezes over in the winter. Iirc that's where most of the cruise ships go

Oh I'm just talking bare bones tourism stuff which is basically just flights and hotels

It would be fascinating to see Greenland transform in my lifetime though.

There will probably never (at least for the next 20-40 years) be an Anchorage sized city in Greenland. But probably in that flatland south of Nuuk looks like a good spot for an airbase.

I'd be more likely to visit if it didn't become a US territory

Danish officials have continued to emphasize that Greenland is not for sale.

We should just take it - send like 1,500 marines and put up US flags and claim it - what are those euro trash morons going to do? Fight us with their free healthcare? Bomb us with 70% taxes?

If trump pulls this off it will be huge. im not any kind of historian but it seems that the world is alot smaller place now and there arent many chances to take over new land, especially something this large. China has been going around and grabbing minerals where they can maybe this can help put us on a path to secure our own.

WTH is wrong with Trump? Canada, Greenland, foreign work visas? Is he trying to pull a Biden but by one entire country at a time?

I say we buy it and ship anyone crossing the border illegally there for a year or two. I bet that would solve the problem.

Great place to build a military base.

Just like it was in the 1940s and 50s when we built Thule there.
