I’m a high level executive but my job has always bored me. I find joy and am goal oriented in my hobbies almost to an overkill. If I just going to work and coming home was my life, I’d develop some pretty bad habits.

yea im sure a guy without even the basic understanding of financials is a "high level executive

gtfo with that BS

OP, i like my job, but yea my hobbies help make like much better. i love spending time with my kids, lifting weights, playing golf and fishing. that shite is fun, so yea of course it makes it better. Throw in a vacation a couple times a year with the wife where we get to go do fun shite thanks to work...yea makes life bearable.

but i understand im blessed. Prolly 70% of the population in the country right now cant afford to have a hobby. Literally just trying to survive day to day.

I sure am lucky my hobbies are making sure my kids have their shite together and house is clean and yard is mowed. Otherwise yeah I’d likely go crazy

Pretty much exactly my life. I do lift in a home gym but it’s not a hobby. It’s hard and I don’t like it. I do it so I’m not a weak old man who can’t get off the shitter in 20 years.

My life isn't bad, but I happiest when I'm out shooting drone video and photography

I'm a jiu jitsu practitioner, and if I didn't get to let out my stress and aggression in a controlled environment I don't think it would be good.

Being a single father, and small business owner is hard. To go blow off steam and choke some mother fricker every now and again is good for the soul.

Ditto.

You don’t have to love your job. The more important thing is not hating it.

When I was young/early in my career I did more physical work/worked with my hands. My hobbies at that time were more mentally focused.

As I've progressed throughout my career & I use my brain more these days than my body, my hobbies are more physically focused.

Point being, a hobby quits being a hobby when one becomes obsessed with it

I totally agree with this.

Name a common post menopausal hobby for women.

My hobby since high school has been sewing and now that I am retired, I do machine embroidery and vinyl crafting. My family has said I should d this as a part time job, I could make lots of money. True enough, but then it would no longer be a hobby or de-stressor as it is when I do it for the love of it.

Also, gardening is good therapy too!

Sure. Mine have always been fishing, guns and golf. Probably 3 of the most expensive hobbies out there. But they sure are fun.

Years ago when I worked in an IT shop of 9 people we pretty much worked to fund our hobbies. Mine was golf. These people were talented and worked hard but everyone wanted to be somewhere else. Btw, all of us were single.

Fishing, exercise and yard work.

Wife says her hobby is reading. Nothing wrong with reading, but she reads on her phone, so insta is right there calling her name. I think people need hobbies that stimulate the brain a bit more, with results that you can see, feel, touch, taste

"Doesn't cost a ton of money" is somewhat relative. I enjoy wood working. Mostly use alder wood for projects since it's the cheapest stain grade wood sold. Tooling costs a good bit but you can accomplish a lot with maybe $1,000 in tooling. A drill, couple of saws, table saw and a router and you can build a huge variety of furniture.

Yeah. I actually have new power tools and a new table saw and a router. Woodworking is something I'm considering. I think that could be a lot of fun.

Yikes

I commute down Perkins and even my daily short drive probably takes years off of my life.

I wish I were content waiting 5 seconds for the first car in line to begin accelerating after the light turns green and then driving 5-10 MPH under the speed limit side by side with another vehicle, but alas I am not.
