I went back to college last year at age 41 to advance my career and I no longer consider the career piece. It’s just a hobby. I feel like I’m working toward something and if it helps my career then that’s great too.

I really think a lot of today's mental health issues is the lack of adults, primarily men, to de-stress from their jobs and home lives.

I work from home so separting the two can be hard sometimes but i make it a point everyday to walk out to my back yard that leads to a big patch of shaded woods, have a seat in my lawn chair and be thankful for what i have. Only takes about 15 minutes of staring into that patch of woods to bring me back to a childhood home that backed up against a big patch of woods with great memories. This is where i decompress and get back to what really matters. Then back to work for me to finish out the workday.

Thats a pretty good project you have ahead of you.

My shop welder is a Miller Millermatic 212 auto set mig welder. Once you weld with wire you will never want to weld again with stick.
Had a portable Miller Bobcat that I really liked now I have a Lincoln Ranger.

Cooking for people.

Feeding people makes me feel worth and purpose. Having them enjoy it is just an ego boost.

It's a talent I've developed over a lifetime and the spectacle of big cooking is something I love.

Writing is fulfilling too.

Hobbies are a pressure valve; a temporary reprieve from the tedious, banal, uninspiring minutiae of daily life.

Faith and family are what makes it bearable on the whole.

Hobbies and friends are important. I don’t understand people who have neither and I feel like I know quite a few people in that boat.

My hobbies have begun to feel like work, so I think I may have outgrown them or even burned out on them. I either need to put them aside for a while or move on to new ones. But right now I'm in a restless purgatory trying to fill the vacuum, which isn't good because it feels like I'm just living to work at the moment.

Definitely provides balance. You live in sportsman paradise. Great hunting and fishing. Anyone can start, no matter your age….start now….and great relationships along the way…

i finally realized that i have spent more time working ON the shop than working IN the shops. i bought a mig welder a few years back and now all my equipment needs welded bases with castors. working in/on the shop is my happy place and retirement projects are stacking up to be ready for the day

I enjoy every regularly occurring thing in my life. Working, eating, going home, seeing family, everything. LIfe has been a lot better than bearable.

I think just about everyone here knows my hobby. As for it making things “ok”, I don’t really see it that way because things are good anyway. Rather, I view my time working on my models as a way to unplug and just relax. I think everyone should have something like that. It could be fishing, running, hiking, hunting, working on cars, collecting stamps, cooking (another side hobby of mine), or whatever. But everyone should have some sort of hobby.

I don’t have any hobbies, and I don’t like my job. I’m thinking that’s a bad combination.

I think you’re right. That’s not a good combination. You should find a hobby.

Fishing every weekend is what resets me for the next week. I don’t know why, but it is what I wait on all week at work and makes my life so much better for the last few years.

I enjoy doing that on Saturday and Sunday and date night with the wife afterwards.

You have to have something to break the week and cycle
