4 10s. Not even close. I'd tell them you're getting offers from other places for more money though. Let them know they need to store it up or someone's going to come in with an offer you can't turn down.

Why are they discounting your pay based on the schedule you chose to work?

This sounds like a place that I wouldn't even consider working for.

Dude, I'd starve on $29/hr. I gotta pay my Ford Raptor, $2,500/month house note, side x side and boat notes.

Yes, the other job is $3.75 more per hour but god damn I'd be lying if I said 4-10s has made my life a lot better.

Well, if 4-10s hasn’t made your life a lot better, as you typed, then I am not sure what your question is here. You say you’d be lying if you said 4-10s has made your life better. So, you can make more money working a schedule that will not make your life worse than the 4-10s? I’d take the money.

Over 10 years, you would be leaving $75k on the table. That adds up.

Take those 4-10s. It’s not big if a difference.
Commute gas. Eating out. Vehicle maintenance.

You could do a side hustle on your day off.

I’ve saved a ton of leave for doing stuff on my day off. That’s instant $$$$$

If you generally enjoy as much time off work as possible stick to 4 10s.

I imagine it's really hard for work life balance type people to go from working 4 days a week to 5.

Like others said you can find some kinda side hustle on your days off.

I'm desperate trying to get in somewhere that does 4 day work weeks myself. Sounds amazing.

I too would take the 4-10s but ONLY if i could get Mondays off, not Fridays.

My dad taught me that decades ago. His office went to a flex schedule with a day off every two weeks. He picked Monday; everyone else wanted Friday.

He reasoned that Friday is always an easy day at the office; people want to take it easy and leave early. Monday off means you can hunt late, drink late, etc. on Sunday and not have to drag into to the office the next day. Annual bonus: off the day after the Super Bowl.

Good question.

It’s a quality of like decision that only each individual can decide.

I never felt comfortable with the 4x10 idea back when this was a real question for me.

I didn't like the idea of being obligated to sit at an office for 10 hours per day. With a commute, that ends up being basically 12 hours work per day, most days.

Thinking about my performance, I didn't like the idea of being gone for three days per week. If you're on some kind of a project with a deadline, just being "around" for important questions, crises, etc. seems important, even if you're not putting in a long day every day.
