TBH, the Rockies are amazing
But with the smokies you have less intense weather, and you are much closer to nice beaches.
Plus you aren't in loony Colorado...
And if THAT aspect of Colorado is the Draw...
They don't call 'em the Smokies for nothin.

Why?
The cunts who've taken over Colorado. I don't want to be anywhere near them and want as little of my tax money as possible supporting them.

It is still wonderful, but it is now infested with liberal California trash. Walking down the streets you are bombarded with woke crap propaganda. The fresh mountain air replaced with weed smoke.
I honestly don’t know a single person that moved to Colorado from California except for college students. I live in Florida all winter and smell weed way more than often walking down the streets there than I do in Boulder.

Well that’s not saying much. Don’t worry, just as democrats have ruined every major city and beautiful area of this country, so to will be the fate of Colorado.
I don’t have much to complain about as far as politics go in Colorado. I don’t find the people to be nearly as politically vocal as they are in other states. The property taxes are ranked somewhere near 4th lowest in the nation every year. For what we pay I can say the services are outstanding. We have over 300 miles of paved bike paths in Boulder County that are well maintained. The snow is cleared from them super quick. The roads are well maintained, the schools seem nice. We have very little crime. I can’t complain about how the state is ran.

Denver and Boulder . The mountain towns are not nearly as liberal as you are lead to believe. Fort Collins isn't nearly as liberal as you would believe. Trump flags all over Larimer and Weld county . Lots of people working the oil industry up north

For me it would be neither, it would be up in the Shenandoah Mountains in Virginia and West Virginia.
Sure the peaks aren't as high as the Smokies and Rockies, but that's not a huge deal to me. You don't get as hot as you do in the Smokies in the summer, nor as cold or extreme as you do out in the Rockies in the winter.
My concern with the Smokies is that, while Hurricane Helene might have slowed it down, long term I worry about western North Carolina getting overrun by people from the Northeast and ruining the character. For eastern Tennessee, I worry about it getting overrun by people from western North Carolina who have been priced out as well as being overrun by southerners from other states.
My concerns with the Rockies is the same, just in general getting overrun by the people priced out from California, Oregon and Washington. I'm not into skiing or snowboarding so that's not a consideration for me. I love the Rockies, but more to visit.
For me if it's the eastern side of the U.S., it's the Shenandoah Mountains in Virginia and West Virginia. Or if it's the western side of the U.S., it's the Cascade Mountains in far northern California or Oregon.

If I was from neither place I would pick the Rockies, but I am southern so the Smokies. I prefer lower Alabama to either though.

that's the only issue I have with legalization, I don't give a shite if everyone wants to partake but I don't want to have to smell that shite everywhere I go, and there have to be second hand smoke issues for people subject to random drug screens, which I am

Scenery is better in the Rockies. People are better in the Smokies.

Rockies - western-type cowboys & great skiing
Smokies - redneck & hillbilies taking side-trips
from Pigeon Forge and leaving
McDonalds wrappers at campsites.
Winner - Rockies

Politization aside - Rockies by a long shot.

Denver is an absolute shithole. But it's not the Rockies.
Seriously cut denver out of Colorado and the remainder is amazing

Are there many office jobs supporting oil and gas up that way? I’m curious as to who is operating up there.

Rockies. Is this a serious question? Would you rather live near Grand Isle or Waikiki?
Posted on 6/29/25 at 3:05 pm to SaintlyTiger88
The Rockies have legalized edibles. Winner.

I love the close proximity of north Georgia, North Carolina and whatnot us to offer for hiking and camping.
Hiked/camped recently this past summer and this past spring
This week we head out to Colorado to camp/hike which we also enjoy. Takes a bit longer to get there but those summers are hard to beat. Colorado July is fantastic
