Probably North Carolina. Somewhere in the mountains but close enough to the coast for a weekend trip

Tennessee.

Taxes are better there and the area isn’t as overrun with lefty assholes, yet.

I love NC but know better than to move to the Research Triangle or Asheville.

Doesn't Tennessee have zero state income taxes? In a close battle, I'd take that as the deciding factor.

NC by a mile.

NC mountains > TN mountains
NC cities > TN cities
NC people > TN people

COL - slight advantage TN

North Carolina has a better economy, more job opportunities, and is a better bang for your buck. Nashville is wayyyyy overpriced, Memphis is a ghetto shithole, and Chattanooga is nice but the job market is kinda meh. Only plus Tennessee has over NC is no state income tax. Either way, they're both good states and are way better than Louisiana.

Would have to research state tax laws. I would live in the mountains either way.

There is a zero state income tax for current residents. New residents have to pay an assessment fee once they establish a residence. It is 15 percent of your first year salary and 3 percent for 5 years. Then if I deem you worthy enough I will let you stay here and pay no state income tax like the rest of us.

TN has no state income tax, so that tips in their favor unless living in NC pays so much more it offsets the savings.
