I am 41 no kids. My SO has 2 that could become a factor.
Both companies have about a 20% growth rate. I am at a public one now. Been there 14 yrs. The one in Plano is private but may be going public in the next year or so.

It was free, I was staying with a friend's uncle and his family. They had just lost their son in a motorcycle accident and I wanted to be around to help out. I was also working as an independent consultant and knew the job would only last a month or so.
I'm back in Tyler holding the couch down right now. All the good work in East TX has dried up.

I did this in 99 out of college. Hated Plano. Live further south in North Dallas or Midtown.

Do it, if you don't have kids having your family 7 hours away by car (and having non stops from DFW to BTR) is not a huge hurdle to get over if that's what's keeping you from a 30-35% raise.

I lived in Plano for 9 years prior to moving to Houston. Nice place to live but pretty dull. My Plano home barely appreciated in value those 9 years.
But it felt safe. I lived in north Plano, near Coit and Hedgcoxe.

To be clear, getting a job in Plano does not mean you have to live in Plano. You could go as far south as Addison and only be 15 minutes away. The Dallas area is terrific... My two years here have been great and I have lived in three neighborhoods and worked downtown and in Plano.

So the question is actually, Baton Rouge to Dallas. I have colleagues that live in Uptown and commute to Plano. It is about 35 minutes straight up the toll way.

I work in plano from time to time and like the area a lot...I do, however, think that the raise that you are offered would be offset by an increased cost of living....
as I get older, I find myself placing more and more emphasis on family and friends....so I probably would decline the offer on that basis alone.
