I had a cousin that got sent up for nearly the same thing. He had to do 2 years in a state prison, then a year in a halfway house. Thing is, he's illiterate and thinks his brother in law was the one downloading all the stuff.

I guess I understand the negative reactions to this perversion, but I don't see the world as black and white as many of you. I feel sorry for these people. I didn't choose what turns me on, and I'd doubt they did either.

I have some sympathy for the ones that can get by without ever doing anything to a kid. I know looking at kids is sick, but is it possible to go through life without ever getting off?

And yes, I have kids and would give up my freedom to end anyone that harmed them in this way.

Maybe where you live. I have a former customer that went to prison for selling meth in the DFW area. He came out four, or five years later with swastika tattoos. That surprised me because he never seemed racist. He told me he had to join a gang, or get his arse beat, or raped daily.

What kind of crime it was.
Interstate trafficking, bank robbery and the most surprising to me (I found out through somebody that just started a sentence for this) email/phone harassment. These are a few that I know of for sure.

They don't move in to arrest people until they have established prolonged, willful contact with the illicit material. They can't build a case against a guy who stumbled upon child porn via 4chan or something. The defense is too easy.

Ergo, your boy wanted to have this stuff. I still don't think it will mean he's going in for 20 years, though. I've seen people do very little time for it.
