I definitely wouldn’t step in and fight the offender. I have two children, and I’m not going to risk getting stabbed for some stranger

At least send your kids in to help

Better question.

Could you look yourself in the mirror if you failed to help someone in such need?

If it was a female, I would seize the opportunity to display the violence the U.S. government spent all your money training me for.

Many years ago I chased a guy trying to steal tools out of a truck in a fenced in parking lot. Pulled fleeing guy off a fence and take him down with the help of a co worker. While pinning him down my co worker says he has a knife tucked into his waist band. Took a unsheathed kitchen knife off him. Afterwards I realized that I could have been stabbed by a Crack head over someone else's property. So the moral of the story is if you want to stop a criminal you might get more than you bargained for.

Yes. My impulse is to help people in situations like that. But my wife would try to stop me if she was with me.

I also know that if I pause before stepping in, I’ll probably recognize a difference in skill level since I’m in my late 50s. I’m slower and not as agile. I’d likely get my arse kicked. But I’m a curious guy and would probably still try to find out if I still got it.

This, tho age makes a difference

Was outside a cajun joint back in the 1970's when a knife fight erupted and the guy sliced open was bleeding all over the family car. Much younger then and stepped into the fray. If it happened now, not as much good in a fight with things like arthritis and all.

I walked outside of a bar to get some air and there was a guy beating the absolute shite out of a woman in the parking lot.
I walked over and pulled him off of her and he came up and quickly cut me with a knife,
I later found out that the woman was his wife and that they fight like that all the time.

I took the 18 stitches to my arm as a sign to never help anyone in need again.

Okay, I get that there are too many variables. Let me narrow it down. Black woman in her early thirties is the victim. Black man is the offender. Black man doesn’t appear armed. Black man is 6’ tall and 210lbs. He punches her in the face and is trying to wrestle her purse away from her.

What if she took his money and put it in her purse? Too many what ifs. And why we always assume the man's at fault? She could be cheating on this guy, who goes to work every day to earn a living to take care of her, and she stole his house keys or something?

Correct. Unless he is injuring her I probably wouldn’t step in even if I was Hulk Hogan.

The fact is I’m not Hulk Hogan so im not sure how much help I would be either way. But if he was obviously beating the crap out of her I would step in (and he would probably start beating the crap out of me too but whatever)

Years ago, definitely. Nowadays, probably.

The thought of cases like that chick in Brooklyn that watched her husband get stabbed to death, yet refused to give a description, (because she’s not racist) gives me pause. Well, that and I’m not a spring chicken anymore.
