Highlights how much bigger cars have gotten to keep up with our fat asses and appetites.
Bigger disc brakes now. Even on smaller cars.
The current Honda Civic absolutely dwarfs the 1980s Accord. It's pretty close in size to the 2005ish Honda Accord now.

Hell yeah!! I like vintage Japanese (especially JDM) cars & trucks. Reliable, vehicles from a much simpler time.

Absolutely.
I just need a car to get me from point A to B. A car is just 4 wheels and steering wheel, everything else is your ego.

For how much it was abused, it was an incredibly reliable, resilient vehicle.

The picture looked like a Datsun at first glance

I have a soft spot for the old bread box Toyota vans too. They were death traps that couldn't get out of their own way. But they were still cool in a 1980s sort of way IMO.
We had a white one similar to this:
They "upgraded" to a 1985 Dodge Caravan which was much larger and more practical....but lasted about 2 years before it started falling apart. It had a horrible Mitsubishi engine and the worst electronics you can imagine. Meanwhile I think that old Toyota van was probably still humming along well into the 1990s.

That sea foam green is awesome. Definitely jealous.

That's awesome.
After Honda got rid of the belt drives but before they started looking very square.

I would love that car.
I took a trip to the beach in high school in one with 4 other guys from my football team.
Many memories.

Not in today's distracted driving world. My vehicles are getting bigger, not smaller.

I did, believe it or not, it was a piece of crap.

My parents had a mid 1980s Mazda 626 similar to this:
Looked space age by comparison to the boxy full sized American cars at the time. I remember it having automatic seat belts and a weird door/key chime that would verbalize warnings AND beep at you.
Wasn't as reliable as you'd think for a Japanese car, especially with respect to the engine and transmission. It was pretty worn out by about 80,000 miles. I think Mazdas have always been behind Toyota and Honda in that department. We had American trucks from the 1970s/1980s/1990s that lasted much longer.
My parents didn't buy a Toyota until the early 1990s. That first Camry was completely bulletproof and extremely reliable. Much better than the Mazda or even the very sturdy Chevy pickup they had back then.

Had that exact car but it was an '80. Hatchback two door. Olive green with solid olive green interior. Thing got tremendous gas mileage.

It'd be a fun play car to have, but I wouldn't want it for a daily driver. Mainly because of the manual transmission. Those suck in rush hour traffic.

I wouldn't daily a 1978 model anything as much as I'd love an Accord or Maxima from that era.
I've seen the way people drive today with their mobile phones in front of their face. I want something with crumple zones and air bags.

I drive a manual transmission to this day. I like to be in complete control of the vehicle.

Me too! My first car was a Honda Civic hand me down. I loved that little car, could always find parking.
The only car I won't drive from back then is the AMC Gremlin.

I drove one for 4 or 5 years, and generally prefer it as well for the same reason. I think if most everyone else on the road drove a manual, the rush hour drive wouldn't be so bad. Keeping a lot of distance from the car in front of you so you didn't have to ride the clutch would frustrate me because so many would cut into that spot. And Birmingham is hilly, so some a-hole was always right on my back bumper on an uphill stop.

It's not the worst vintage car I've ever seen. It looks ok for it's time. Maybe replace the interior and add all the technology.
