I had one...
British Racing Green with tan top and leather. It had 60,000 plus miles on it when I got it. It was my daily driver for about 2 years, when I got an offer I couldn't refuse.
It was fun and got lots of looks. It did have a few quirky problems, but nothing really bad.

Don't think Lucas had any parts in Jags that late but you definitely want a Ph.D. in electro-mechanical systems if you want to own one of those.

Sweet car. For the price you're going to have to pay for the oddball nature of this one I think I'd save a few bucks and stick with the factory cabriolet model.

My aunt had a white one. Someone asked her “what kind of gas mileage does that get?” She replied, “pretty good, it has two gas tanks.”

I assume it was an American safety feature? The bumpers?
As far as reliability goes. With British cars wiring was a major issue. I’m going to guess the enthusiasts have worked out solutions and found ways to make those cars work.

Ford certainly undermined the brands prestige by selling that Jaguar they built on the Mondeo platform.

That car has elegant lines, but still looks powerful. Their were some sharp looking cars in the 80's. I also liked the elegantly styled 2nd generation Cadillac Sevilles.

Hell yea ! Jaguar is the finest of fine! So far above Cadillac,Mercedes,etc outclasses them all!!

The model you are looking at is an aftermarket conversion to ragtop. Done by Hess & Eisenhardt, a Cinci-based hearse builder that also does limos, etc... It's got known problems with the fuel tanks and rot. Go one or two model years later and you can get a factory XJS that's a far better car.
Either way they have a 3-spd GM hydramatic auto trans that isn't very inspiring. Smooth but not fast. Wait til the 94-96 years to get a 4-spd electronic controlled ZF auto trans.

Yes it was. Feds started pushing crash bumpers at 5mph test. Reason as to why all the rubber. All car makers had to do it. Cars at that time started looking like crap due to bumpers like that.

Jags are some of the most beautiful cars out there and who doesn't want to lift up the hood and see a V-12???!!
But the downside is high maintenance costs- if you buy, better see a meticulous service history, otherwise, walk away!

These a beautiful cars with a great ride. They are also notoriously unreliable.
I had a friend who owned a shop that restored E type Jaguars. He had a number of mechanics on his staff. He bought an XJS with a V-12 and had to sell it because of the great expense of keeping it mechanically fit.

The v-12s are cool but for the most part, they are impossible to keep running. The electrical systems are a nightmare. They look like electrical power line systems in Vietnam under the hood.
