Oh okay so because I did all the legwork for lawyers but didn’t have the fancy paper, I’m an idiot.
Carry on with your trashy arse BBQ.

You lost me here. Explain. It’s my understanding as long as she pays herself a competitive salary, the guy wouldn’t be able to claim ownership in the company
The salary, itself, and the fruits of that salary would be community

Correct, so long as the salary paid is not reinvested, then he would have no recoverable claim of community ownership of the company. However, if community property was used to invest, renovate, etc., then it become much more unclear.

She doesn’t own the business yet though.
That's a pretty important detail that would need to fleshed out. Does she currently own a minor percentage stock in the company? What is the mechanism by which she would take ownership of a significant percentage of stock because most family business stock isn't passed via succession.

There's more to it than that.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking.

I think he said private business.
I was in a similar situation before I got married. Except my FIL sat me down in private and talked to me like a man. I didn’t end up signing anything because we spoke to his attorney who said it wasn’t necessary.

Private businesses can have stock. The stock market is simply a means for a stock to be purchased publicly. But a business can have stock that can either not be purchased/ sold or that may be purchased sold privately and/or with authorization.
ETA: Similar to owning a percentage of the company, but with it being in stock there are other advantages.

If my fiancé allowed her dad to treat me like this and put me on the spot like this in a quasi-public setting with a loaded question that's extremely personal, that's a big arse red flag and could lead to a break up if it's not corrected.
This.
If it was handled properly and professionally, I probably would have no problem signing it. The way this was handled, I would be very alarmed.

Plot twist, I’m going to be the guy asking for a pre-nup at a bbq this weekend for my daughter’s soon to be husband. Appreciate the insights. I’m doing it in front of the family because I don’t want anyone to say I didn’t protect the family’s interests if this marriage goes south.
I'm sure you're lying, but if you aren't I hope he drives you to sonic and beats your arse.

This is so strange to me. If you speak with him in private with your daughter present and he declines to sign, do you think people won't believe you? Who are these people?
Does your daughter know this is going to happen or are you planning a total ambush of the guy publicly?

There are other avenues of protecting that besides a prenuptial agreement. My guess is he is such a control freak that he will frick up the transition to the next generation.

Her father sent a big time warning to the future groom, what his place is and where he fits.
Walk.
Walk.

You're a piece of shite and I hope your daughter gives you a ton of shite for pulling this stunt.

So you'd rather do it for your own self preservation and not give one shite about being respectful to your daughter and her relationship with him?

Do you even have any idea what you look like right now?
You're willing to shite on your daughter and her relationship for your own self preservation.
Only white trash do that.

Would be hilarious if he kicked your arse.
Reading through the thread I was thinking I'd be pretty hot over being embarrassed like that. It's disrespectful to do in an open setting. No problem signing a prenup, but it should be talked about privately. If it was me, you'd catch a fist in the face if you gloated/held it over my head. A man of principle won't stand for being treated like such.
Damn I got good inlaws... You always hear stories about trashy people, glad I avoided it

For argument's sake, why would it be embarrassing? I agree its a very weird setting to do it in, I'm assuming he simply met a more relaxed environment but then he talked about making sure the family knew so who knows.
The best part about this is that the OP has no idea how the SIL will react. This could very very easily blow up in his face if his SIL has a solid answer that he can't back out of. For instance if the guy is actually worth some money, he could very easily demand a large some of money at the divorce in order to sign a pre nup. For instance, he could ask for 25-50% of the current business net worth, with the plan of it expanding and being worth considerably more in the future.
But what if its worth less? Now the Daughter is on the hook to owe the SIL a good bit of money no matter what.
A pre set amount at the divorce is a very normal thing.
But in all reality, the perfect answer by the son in law is I'd be happy to sign a pre nup if the FIL pays for a couple hours of a lawyer of the SIL's choice.

OP admitted he’s doing it because he doesn’t like the guy and thinks he’s a worthless freeloader. He’s doing it to embarrass him.

Would see it as a red flag
Princess was bound to know and should have handled it.

Ambush style is to try and break them up under guise of protecting family
I would say I don't want wife to work in family business and further based on that understand if you edit her out of will
