Plot twist, I’m going to be the guy asking for a pre-nup at a bbq this weekend for my daughter’s soon to be husband. Appreciate the insights. I’m doing it in front of the family because I don’t want anyone to say I didn’t protect the family’s interests if this marriage goes south.

I hope you are trolling because there is a very good chance you are about to drive a wedge between yourself and your daughter that will crack your relasionship so badly it can not be repaired if she really cares for him.

If she knows about this and he finds out he should immediatly dump your little princess and yell to the heavans warning everyone else about you two.

And even better what are you going to do when he looks you dead in the eye and calmly says frick off that is none of your businees in front of everyone at the BBQ and they side with him because he is right?

offended? no, glad I saw the red flag in time? hell yes

Okay, Michael Corleone. I’m sure you would have your brother killed if it was good for business.

Without a doubt, that was below the belt on future pa in laws part and designed to thoroughly embarrass you and put you on the spot. It would be veeeeery difficult for me to avoid not only breaking up with the fiancé, if she lacks the balls to reel his arse in, but also not telling pa in law to get fricked.

I would be offended if I was put on the spot in public like that. Not if he came to me like an adult in private and explained the situation.

This father clearly does not like or respect his potential son-in-law.

I thought prenups were only for what you have acquired before you were married.

Nope. Anything you have before the marriage is separate property anyway. And inherited property--no matter if it was inherited during the marriage-- is separate property too. But a prenup is for things acquired with your funds during the marriage. What each spouse acquires during the marriage remains their separate property, even though they are using money they earned during the marriage to purchase it. Without a prenup, that would be community.
