I'm pretty sure this is already a thing. I don't know about the cow's name, but I think there are certain certified farms that you can trace the beef all the way through the process.

In Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, when they ate at the Restaurant at the end of the Universe the cow came out to their table and chatted with them and invited them to inspect him/her. Then it trotted off to shoot itself.

So a plain old name and history is kind of weak.
