I've driven in Europe on 3 trips, and 80-85 mph is the avg people go even when there is no speed limit. Sure 10% or so drive fast as hell, and I got up to 160 km/ he which is just over 90 but I was on 140 for most the time and that's passing most people going about 86 mph.

Over 85 mph and shite happens really really fast. You come up on people going slow super fast, sometimes dangerously fast.

I feel comfortable doing it in Baton Rouge. Why wouldn't I feel comfortable doing it in the middle of nowhere?

I am comfortable cruising at 90-100 mph on interstates and 2 lane highways in the southwest.

I would not be comfortable with semis and other drivers cruising that fast in my direction.

the autobahn is kept in better condition than the U.S. interstates

True to an extent. The one thing that struck me as less than US standards was lane width and the general shoulders seemed more narrow than I thought should be for unlimited speed limit areas of the autobahn.

(for those who do not know, the German autobahn is not all unlimited speed limits. You have to get removed from the urban areas to have no speed restrictions.

as indicated with one of these signs:

Allowing 90 MPH on most interstates would just result in more carnage.

Yeah, but at those speeds, bad driving quickly becomes a self-correcting problem.

Hell yes. The speed limit should always be higher than the average person feels comfortable driving. Current limits are set to enhance revenue

When I was in my early 20's, I drove from Tyler to Terrell (close to 70 miles) on I-20 at 90 MPH, and higher. Was in with three other vehicles that passed me going that fast. It was my first trip in my MX6. I wanted to see how it felt to drive it that fast. The other cars were OT ballers in a BMW, a Mercedes and a Seville. All three had Escort radar detectors. They kept driving that fast when we hit Hwy. 80. I slowed down to 75 then.

At night on I-10 between Ozona & Fort Stockton TX. There is a good reason the speed limit drops off a bunch at night. They seem to have suicidal tendencies when the sun goes down.

A lot of people are already doing 90 anyway

Just keep it on cruise control and hope the road speed regulators stay out of the left lane!

Without a doubt should be 90.

Doesn't matter if your going 65 or 90, your dying if you wreck.
