I’m a teacher also. It bothers me more who doesn’t stand. If someone stays seated, 9/10 times they’re either a minority or some white kid with purple hair with a one syllable non gender specific name and they no longer go by their dead name. These kids are so brain dead and ill informed. They’ve been made to believe that their country hates them.

It wouldn't bother me but I'd be very disappointed that they didn't stand for the pledge of allegiance.

My children will always be standing for the pledge. It is part of the respect and common decency they were taught.

No. I’ve told my kids that they shouldn’t pledge allegiance to any state or government. I’ve told them to just stand up and go through the motions so as not to create a ruckus, but also that pledging their allegiance to a government that will send them to war for profit, inflate their money to pay for those wars, and jail them for not paying taxes is not a good idea.
My kids will also tell you that taxation is theft and they call the federal reserve the creature from Jekyll Island.

As a teacher and a combat veteran, I understand that freedom for me means freedom for thee.

I love all of the Trumpers getting pissy about a pledge that was created by a SOCIALIST to promote fealty to the government.

It depends. Are they just being a little uneducated shite, or do they really have an issue that they've thought out, researched, and fill strongly about?
If they are doing it b/c of some stupid TikToc trend. Like all these college students who can't explain what they're even yelling about...... Then yes I'll be bothered.

Yes.
To me, a kid showing a lack of respect and appreciation for being born American as opposed to someplace where cannibalism is still a thing is a very bad look.
Wise up, you little shits. You won life's lottery and are too ignorant to grasp it.

That's not what protesting is. And wtf are you talking about with the cannibalism thing?

Yes. They (daughter and stepdaughter) would immediately be removed from our will.

I would want to know. I’d want to know what was going thru their head. I would explain that we still vote, we can have a voice in government
Although we are falling further away from ideal it beats the shite outta what we declared independence from.

I did better than that .....You who question this, take notice.
Far East Command issued an order to be followed. 1971. We got together and decided to protest. The entre football team at Yamato High School in Tokyo, Japan. We went to our Dad's first. Then we all met , Dad's and Sons at Camp Drake Basketball Arena. We explained why and explained our purpose .......First issue, when your best friend is the base commander's son ........there is an edge.
Jimi Hendrix was in the movie Woodstock and played the National Anthem. Some of us going to Viet Nam. Some not coming back. The decision to withdraw had already been made.
We explained. Our lives have been on bases. We stand, we follow the rules .....We have a right to protest. All we to do is simple. When the movie starts playing, we stand. The movie will stop, the house lights go up and we get kicked out. .We leave in an orderly fashion.
On the night the movie played at our base .....All of our Dad's were on the back row of the theater. We walked in and sat down. Movie started, Jimi Hendrix came out, we stood up. Movie stopped, house lights on .......ushered out. My Dad and the rest of the Officers and NCO's watching.....We walked out, met our Girlfriends in the line outside, got back in, line, got our tickets and we back for the second show.
We made our statement, paid the price dictated and said no more.
We were the closest to the action, recovery and rehab bases around ......We saw the price first hand. We saw our Dad's go to war and return. Our actions after our protest honored our Dad's . .....We lost Classmates.
My son was taught to respect that sacrifice. I could give a crap about the reason we went to war .......We honored their sacrifice and ours.
To this day .....Take your damned hat off and stand ....For them ....
I had the honor to officiate football in a crew where everyone was a member of a River Boat Crew. The longest service 6 months. Everyone of those guys were wounded. One night I got a touch confused . Large flag in the south endzone, in the north endzone another large flag .....In front of the band a Color Guard ......"Which flag do we put out hand over our heart?" "THE COLOR GUARD ALWAYS GETS THE ATTENTION!"
"Damned Military Brats......"
I'm the guy in the airport that always booms out :GUYS! coming or going?" "Thank you for your service!" and start clapping ......Embarrassed my Boss constantly. He was Korean .....kept telling him "You are here because of them."

quote:Yeah, I don’t think I was ever awake or functioning enough in the morning to actually consciously think about doing the pledge. It was just the signal for the start of the school day.
Most only do it because they are told to and are just going through the motion.

I totally agree and it's downright sickening. The sad part is we have veered so far off course from what this country was founded on that I don't know if it's possible to get this country back on track.
All you have to do is watch the evening news to see all these young kids killing each other, but that's going to happen when you teach them they don't have to respect the flag, country or each other. These kids today have been brainwashed into thinking that it's a free country, so they can say or do whatever they want, anytime they want to do it, and there's nothing anyone can do about it.
30+ years ago, our country was such a better place to live in because all children were all taught to love and respect each other. All parents made sure their child stood for the pledge and showed the flag the respect it deserved.
As a son, father and grandfather, I take solace in knowing that no one in my immediate or extended family has ever sat for the pledge and never will.

At the high school where I work, they always say “Please stand for the dress code check and the pledge.” I can’t force them to stand for the pledge, but I can make them stand for the dress code check … during the pledge. I’ve never had a problem.

Very clever and I like it, but it's sad that we have to go to those measures so they will stand for the pledge. When I started teaching almost 20 years ago, every student stood for the pledge and did so proudly. The problem is when parents start telling their children that they don't have to respect the flag, it permeates to other parts of their lives, which is why some students think it's okay to disrespect teachers and anyone in authority.
