Would you ask your parents to retire so you could avoid paying childcare?

I had to go into the bank earlier and there was a young girl at the counter in front of me, maybe 25ish and she said to the teller, "I told my mom if I get pregnant she has to quit her job and watch the kid, daycare is expensive."

I kind of feel like if you can't afford everything that comes with a kid then you shouldn't have one.
I get that childcare costs a lot of money, but I just can't see even asking someone to give up their job to convenience my desire to have a kid, much less just assume that they should do it.

I specifically moved away from my parents so they wouldn’t watch my kids. So this is a foreign concept.

It’s selfish on the daughters part. Grow up and pay for your own damn childcare.

Any person who would say this out loud to a stranger is trashy, not OT everything is trashy, but legit trashy. Her mom probably doesn't have a career, but a job at dollar general.

just ask your parents to pay for daycare.

-they get to keep working
-they don't have to watch your rugrats
-the quality of care is better
-the quality of your parents lives is better.

yeah....I'm gonna go with no to that too.
My folks raised me, their obligation ends there. anything that has to do with grandkids is just them having fun and getting paid back for all the bullshite I pulled as a kid.

Yeah that's the kind of joke my wife would make.

My generation and below are hyperbolic as frick. We say shite like this all the time, but it isn't supposed to be literal no matter how many times we say literally.

Probably. Also, there are a lot of potential grandmothers out there that do nothing but beg or basically demand a grandchild. It often starts at the wedding reception.

No, this is dumb. What happens when I would just need them to watch on a Sat night so I could go to a movies with husband? They would be so sick of watching them full time they wouldn't want to do what typical grandparents do. I hate this girl and don't even know her.

I pay over a grand a month for day care and my mom picks up my child regularly after her nap bc she wants to see her so bad. Retired grandparents love their grandchildren very much from my personal experience.

What would be just as bad is if her mom actually did it.
