kind of feel like if you can't afford everything that comes with a kid then you shouldn't have one.

Probably. Also, there are a lot of potential grandmothers out there that do nothing but beg or basically demand a grandchild. It often starts at the wedding reception.

This was my mom. As soon as my brother and his wife shut down the baby factory she started in on me. She was even asking me if one of my female friends would pop a kid out for me.

Oh and to answer the question i wouldn't ask my mom to quit her job.... but i would pay her. My brother did that (mom never took the money). It was still cheaper than daycare.

My wife and I live frugally. Everything is paid off so when my daughter and son in law said they were pregnant, my wife gave her 9 month notice. She has kept him from day one.
I retired a year later. I work three days a week to keep busy. Thursday and Friday are my days with him. He is two now and we love taking care of him everyday.
The good news is my daughter is pregnant again and we can’t wait. Taking my grandson fishing two morning’s a week is the best thing in the world. Life is too short and they grow up so fast.
I’d rather teach them about life myself. This is the best time of our lives.

Grandparents that willingly do this give their children a gift beyond measure. I aspire to do it for my kids someday. I’d offer before they asked but yeah it would be entitled of them to do so. Would trade working for 8-5 grandparenting in a heartbeat.

Sounds like the kind of woman that looks like a gorilla and will spend her life with pets she pretends are children. A billion excuses to not have kids in the reality that she will never have the option. Seriously doubt dudes see her as maternal material.

Your parents make more than the cost of daycare. So if you want to inherit their money, let them keep working.

I would never ask them to do that. However, my mom and my mother in law both volunteered to retire to be the daytime childcare for us. We are very appreciative

My brother and I called it the "reproduction derby".

He won by 7 months.

I just can't see even asking someone to give up their job to convenience my desire to have a kid

My wife could not give up her job fast enough when our first Grandkid arrived. I think that's the point you're missing. Many women can't wait to relive what they think of as the greatest moments of their lives. It's not true of all, but is the case with many.
