Are things advanced enough where I can pirate the shite out of music?

I’ve been a network engineer or involved in networking since 1999, I often think about how my job has helped society degrade to its current state. It legitimately bothers me.

It's a hard reset

No thanks

You just have to proactively avoid the shite you don't like and set boundaries

I think it’s possible to fix that, keep the tech we have and end up with a world that’s not only better than what we have today, but also far better than anything we had in the past.

I seriously like your optimism. Could you expound on how, precisely, we are going to get that genie back in the bottle?

I really hope you have some good ideas how to do it, because I haven't heard any so far.

Yeah. Lets go back to 90s tech where I would get booted off AOL for breaking their Terms of Service after spamming a message board. I would always have to call AOL and pretend to be my dad and say it wouldn't happen again. My dad has still to this day never been on the internet.

Can we keep text messaging? I remember it in the late 90s, but don't remember when it first hit the scene.

Yeah but it'll run your bill way up if you use it too much

Most of this stuff was the late 90s/early 00s. The majority of the people didn't have cell phones in the 90s, and the internet was effectively in 0% of homes in 1993 and only over 50% in 2000.

Society would be better off but I’d miss the ability to stream entire shows (binge watch) instead of waiting a week between each episode.

I’d also miss being able to find any info at my fingertips but that JC Penney lingerie section of the catalog, or the Sears Christmas catalog.

Also having Kmart, radio shack, and many other establishments still in existence would be worth it

Actually going to a mall and shopping hanging out

After the sports illustrated stuff the other day I was just thinking about how much I miss when SI was valuable to read and sportscenter was appointment viewing. Back when I'd eagerly wait through the commercials for whatever I wanted to see on the other side

Sure, SI took some strange turns and ESPN has been all over the place but ultimately neither would've changed had tech development not made the old way of doing things obsolete

Google maps and google earth are about the only piece of technology I would truly miss if we warped back 20-25 years (other than all things medical).

The loss of the night sky and the loss of everyone’s in person presence is the loss of the human soul.

Internet wasnt mainstream in homes until the mid to late 90s.

And even then it wasnt useful as we know it today.

Either give me early 2000s for the tech or give me late 80s for the lack of tech.

I say we could revert back to the 70’s/80/s and landlines only, and we’d be a ton better off as a society in so many areas of life people don’t recognize just how much has changed as a result of this technology we have today.

That’s very optimistic, I sincerely hope you are correct.
