Are you talking about creating a US version of Liberia?

What would the state do without that deadbeat to support and prop up?

New Orleans would have to stand on its own and balance it’s own budget. They’d be fricked.

Louisiana’s budget would be better off. And their violent crime stats would improve dramatically without New Orleans.

Once again, people can’t see through the sick culture that exists in most American cities to see the value in New Orleans. In reality, if we were to lop off with surgical accuracy, about 1/3 of the city, it would be a wonderful place.

New Orleans can’t function as a city, you expect it to function as a state…

It depends. Does the state take in more money from N.O. industry and tourism than it spends in N.O.? No matter what you think of N.O., it has by far the state's largest economic engine. I imagine the port itself brings in a large amount of money to the state.

Do you really believe those parishes would bring in what they do if it weren't for NO? This is like saying all of the affluent counties surrounding Chicago would be what they are without Chicago....it just doesn't work like that. Metro areas, like it or not, only exist because of the cities they surround.

Also, though it's been years since I've been down there, it really sucks reading from y'all how far NO has fallen. My wife and I loved our trip there (other than the extreme heat). Hopefully, someone can replace Latoya and get the city back on the right track. Tourism brings in a TON of money. Lose that? Yikes.

It wouldn’t matter to them if New Orleans was it’s own state. They’d benefit even more from the city’s implosion.

People pushing New Orleans off the Titanic into the last lifeboat and refusing to get in with them. High fiving and patting themselves on the back, yelling good riddance, as NOLA paddles away and the Titanic sinks.

New orleans needs to split into 3 cities to be saved.

New Orleans proper. Retains NOPD and most of govt

New Orleans east needs to become it's own city. Same with Algiers. Both have exclusive communities that can help pay for local help without the money going to Nola proper. Both are horribly undeserved and could then use the sheriff's office like done in EBR or form a new force.

New orleans has too much land area for its current police force.

No way in H--- the rest of the states would let NOLA get two Senators and a Representative. Although Troy Carter is muttering :I like the sound of that.

Doubtful. DC makes it work by being the capital of the most powerful country in the world and getting special appropriations from Congress (although the tax base is also quite healthy). New Orleans would struggle hard in comparison.

You forget about Shreveport and Baton Rouge, and the crime that is not reported in Lafayette
