Ignoring the sheer stupidity of this thread, I'll play.

New Orleans might be breaking their own violent crime record this year.

Every major city has crime what is your point. Furthermore violent crimes are becoming a relative statistic. Not all crimes are being reported or even punished.

And there is just not anywhere near enough focus on public safety to keep the city viable.

You have any data to back this up?

They have zero in common with north Louisiana and resent that Lafayette and Baton Rouge even exist.

This is probably the worse part of your argument how does this even play a part in your decision? LA has zero in common with Barstow does that mean they should not reside in the same state?

Louisiana has much more in common with Mississippi than Oklahoma.

Do you really believe those parishes would bring in what they do if it weren't for NO? This is like saying all of the affluent counties surrounding Chicago would be what they are without Chicago....it just doesn't work like that. Metro areas, like it or not, only exist because of the cities they surround.

New York being a different state doesn’t seem to affect residents of Connecticut.

The value of NOLA to Louisiana is the same as the value of LA to the US.

The mouth of the MS River.

River access is still, without a doubt, a major benefit for the state / country.

NOLA suffers from the same problems that every other major urban area suffers from.

Jefferson and St. Tammany need Nola. Without Nola those areas aren’t nearly as prosperous or populated.

New Jersey and Connecticut don’t seem to be held back by being in a different state from NYC.

No,no, no.

Have the state transform the area of new orleans north of the river into a Special Entertainment Zone.
Dissolve the city government and replace it with a concessionaire. In order to win that concessionaire businesses would have to bid on it. The bidders would have to be approved by the state. The winner gets to run new orleans as a business and pays the state a set amount each year. This would motivate the concessionaire to make a profit and manage the SEZ in a positive manner. Let the concessionaire have a security force, a maintenance group, and management.

the port itself brings in a large amount of money to the state.

The city government has made the choice over the last few decades to drastically downgrade port activity in favor of tourism. New Orleans was a world class port as recently as the 1960s. Now its a complete nonentity in that regard. The oil and shipping ports in other parts of Louisiana have become collectively more productive and important to the state.

It's a conscious decision to become third world, celebrated by the city's voters.

Anyone who thinks Acadiana is "the same as Alabama" or that the Louisiana wetlands and coastline re:fishing make it the "same as Mississippi" are wearing their narrow minded Orleans Parish provincialism on their shoulder.
