The A/C is responsible for a large segment of Northern population moving south over the last 30 years.
In that case, maybe it was a bad idea.
And to those of you commenting on segregation and feminism, you can't impose your 2020 understanding on society on history. A lot of women were happy to be homemakers and mothers and have their husband provide for them. And as far as segregation goes, BLM is actively pursing it now, so....

As much as I have said 50s New Orleans was probably GOAT, it would be unbaeable without AC. My ancestors were some hardy folk.
My dad grew up in 1950s Nola. He loved it. Said it was hot AF though.

Only the ot would skip over Jim Crow and only bitch about not having ac.
The 80s were the best.

Damn racists down voting me. Y’all really want to go back to separate water fountains?
Nobody is thinking about separate water fountains or the like when they talk about the 50’s being an awesome time in American history. They think significantly less crime, a time when you could literally leave your house unlocked without concern, and a time when America was very hopeful for the future, not dreading anti-American Marxism talking over this country from within, or perverts and deviants of every kind weaving their way into American life, not politically polarized, a time when most Americans thought similarly regardless of what party they voted for. They’re thinking awesome vehicles, and a much simpler life with less concerns, a time when Americans had a very similar value system which didn’t question simple shite like which gender you were, or some other insane shite like that.

If “no” to both of these, you good. Go for it
Sure was horrible back then when they had more fathers at home, didn’t have their children being shot by gangbangers (Or pointless mayhem), stable work, strong churches and family units. Strong HBCUs. Lower abortion rates, Satchmo, Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis Jr, et al.

True. And I'll be the first to admit it's because it wouldn't affect me. I wouldn't expect a minority to answer "yes"

Yep. Now I really want to, thanks.

Don’t know about the 50’s, but the world was a better place before the first cell phone was produced. Back then we knew everyone else was an a-hole, but we didn’t have to witness it.

This is some grade-A propaganda.

I think this is the best answer, at least before the first smart phones came out.

Of course I can. I just knew you were fishing extremely hard for a response so I gave you one.

Maybe partially true, while completely ignoring the glaring negatives.

You’re right. The blacks loved the 50’s. They probably wish it could go back to the good ole days.

I would kill myself I lived anywhere at any time with no AC.
Posted on 8/22/20 at 9:08 am to Dawgwithnoname
Well, I had no ac until high school on 1960, but did not know any difference. It was just a way of life, as hot as it could get. One thing I do not miss from that era is the mosquitos. There were nights you could not go outside they could be so bad.
Certainly a different society, so much more innocent. t six, most Sundays I would walk alone to the bus stop at Claiborne & Washington for a ride to Canal St. I would go to a movie, either the Saenger, Joy or Lowe’s theatre. Mom worked at the A&G on the corner, so join here after for a treat, often a banana split. Dad would get off & pick us up in the family ‘54 Chevy.
At 12, I would drive the Chevy to Boy Scout meetings on Friday nights. Would make a great black & white photo today, a few of us would walk around the corner from Wilson Elementary to the corner, neighborhood bar. Half a dozen scouts in their little uniforms slamming cans of Dixie sitting at the bar.
I remember the first TV, a 12” repossessed, black & white. There was one station in NOLA. My only Corvette was made by Schwin. The grass was cut with a push mower & dishwashers were nonexistent. The window fan & floor furnace kept the shotgun pretty comfortable most of the time.
My first trip by air was off to Paris Island & second was cross country in a Super Constellation to CA, I remember the first commercial jet. The first car I actually owned was a ‘57 MGA. Saved the $300 working with Dad on the ambulance for Touro & Baptist.
Theses brain cells should have been dead a long time ago, but great memories of a time long lost.
