Maybe it's because I've always lived in a rural setting, but I have always thought I was born a few decades too late. The world today is so fast paced and so information saturated that it seems like we're spiraling toward a future where evil is dominant and there's nowhere to go to avoid it.

I always look at heh 50s and 80s as being two decades that were generally positive period of Americana, where things were simpler, there was an optimism and patriotism that permeated society, and you could just live your life and enjoy it.

We probably don't have many people on the OT that could comment on living in the 50s, but if you could trade the present for living in the 50s, would you do it? My ONLY hesitation is air conditioning. Living in Louisiana makes AC a modern day necessity.

Are you black?
Are you a woman?

If “no” to both of these, you good. Go for it

I’m pretty sure they had AC in the 50s.

Funny you should ask. My electricity just went out so I’m living with no AC in 2020.

As much as I have said 50s New Orleans was probably GOAT, it would be unbaeable without AC. My ancestors were some hardy folk.

Look at a population density map. Go where the people aren’t. Don’t buy cable. Stay off the internet.

Congratulations, the “evil” can’t get you.

You also seem a bit unhinged, but hey.

If you never had it, you wouldn’t miss it. I’m in, as long as my memory of A/C would be wiped. Great time in America to be alive, but as a matter of record, A/C was around in window units back then, but few people had them.

People adapt man. You don't know what you are missing until you have it. Not to mention, today people are in offices all day where the temp is set pretty cool and thats what our bodies adapt to so we are not able to handle the heat as well as older generations. But even with AC I wouldn't really want to go back to the 50s.

Well, look at it this way. Most people in the 50s had gone their whole life without AC. They were acclimated to life without it.

you’d have been culled from the herd at birth in the 50s. Rightfully so

You can control this yourself. As someone else said, unplug, put the phone down, and go do something else.

The A/C is responsible for a large segment of Northern population moving south over the last 30 years.

You would have probably OD'd and died in the 50s since there really wasn't a "war on drugs" plus, not nearly as many places available to get help so if I were you I wouldn't be so quick to criticize others.

Knowing that, I'd rather just not have A/C and they all move back up north.
