To flip it around, in the Netherlands basically everyone speaks fluent English. Better English than lots of Americans.

If I remember correctly in the Netherlands the kids are mandated to take four foreign languages.

We frick up the English language so bad that Ebonics is created.

That's not really the problem. Most of us took a foreign language in high school.

Problem is it's a highly perishable skill and we rarely have the opportunity to use Spanish/French.

Prague outside of the main tourist attractions. Other places I've been in Europe have been easy and I can speak enough Spanish to communicate my basic needs

Used to happen in my neighborhood in Dallas on occasion. Sometimes with Mexicans and one time with Eastern Europeans. This was in some of the condos over by Presbyterian Hospital.
