As the dept head I didn’t have to work “the bench” much, but I made a deal with the crew that I’d do the only job they hated if that was the only bench job I would do. Semen analysis. Nbd to me. Just gown up, glove up, mask up , shield up and take my time. The funny part was they wouldn’t interrupt me or allow anyone else to. I could see them waving people off and whispering to them to wait. Even the doc in charge started walking backwards when they signaled him. And i was the only one whose results I trusted. Of course, the results meant a lot to the patients. Usually gave them hope in one way or another or set them up for a different path.

Bacteriology Lab at East Jeff Hospital.

Smearing sick people’s poo on agar plates every morning.

It was horrible.

Making dog food and then stacking 50 lb bags of horse feed all day. shite job but I was 16 and it kept me in shape for football. Also taught me the value of education so I wouldn't have to do it for the rest of my life.

Taco Hell. I worked with a bunch of dropouts who lived together. Frankly being in college at the time and working during the summer back home created my impression that they were beneath me. I think I stayed there for 3 weeks before telling then to frick off.

Close second was working a temp job washing/folding hospital linens. I saw a lot of nasty shite.

Oil pit at a car wash. No one else knew what they were doing. Owner was screwing everyone with pay.
Had to work on hot engines. Pay was like $8/hrs.

Front desk at a front desk for a horrible hotel near the airport at Pittsburgh.

The GM had no idea what he was doing. He was there for one year when I arrived and the front desk manager was there for six. The FD manager would show up at 6 am and leave at around 630 pm every day. The GM for whatever reason couldn't stand him and abruptly fired him just a week before Christmas.

In the next five months, we had four different Front desk managers because nobody else could stand the position.

I would work till as late as midnight some nights and had to be back at 7am, all for $8 an hour.

I would get yelled at for the most absurd reasons and something that was not my fault.

Message to all the young people: Do NOT choose hospitality management as a college major!

My cousin had some of the long chicken houses you see in the country, we built a few and had to put the tin on top in July.

It was so hot it would burn your butt, we would ball a Tshirt up and put it in our back pocket.

I also cleaned them things out after chickens had pissed/shite in them for 3-4 months, the stench is god awful

Box maker / general yahoo for an offshore catering company. 12 weeks of misery during the break of my junior year of college. 10 - 12 hours a day, standing up the whole time, hands all cut and scratched up. But it paid for college and made me determined to finish my degree. No way in the world could I spend 40 years working in that environment.

To collect boar semen you have the boar mount a dummy and then apply manual pressure to the corkscrew end of the boar's penis. In other words one night a week for about 18 months I gave hand jobs to boar hogs.
