5,000 feet

That's more than 10 times the height (460 ft) of the Louisiana State Capitol building.

The tallest building in the world, Burj Khalifa in Dubai, is 2,717 ft.

Someone has some ‘splainin’ to do, with these modern chutes if you can cram in it to pack it’s going to deploy

1 in 750 is the normally quoted number for a sport chute. I had 2 cutaways in the military. They only issue I ever had on a civilian jump was my hackey was shoved deep in the pocket and I had to go to my reserve.

I’m sure that her parachute partially worked. Nobody’s going to survive a 5,000 foot fall without a parachute providing some amount of support.

Incredible. She should play the lotto too with that luck.

Is it luck if she’s paralyzed?

Has anyone here skydived in the Baton Rouge/New Orleans area? I've always wanted to do this.

I was thinking the same thing myself. I started a thread two days ago about how I’d prefer death to paralysis. I’m not sure it’s really a good thing that she survived the fall.

With that being said, there’s not a lot in the article indicating that she’s paralyzed. It just talked about her broken bones. Although maybe it can take a while for doctors to determine if somebody’s paralyzed.

You can have broken vertebrae and not be paralyzed.

Personally, if I’m skydiving and my parachute isn’t working, I’m deliberately going to take my parachute off entirely. The last thing I’d want is for my parachute to half deploy at the last second and to end up quadriplegic. I’d much rather die than that.

This is like the "God is great" people who will respond on facebook about this story

Personally, God would be alot greater if he just let the parachute open sparing her the 5,000 foot fall and broken back

Amen!

I might read that article, just so that I can do the opposite of what that article says. If I were falling from up high, I’d want to do everything to ensure I’d actually die.

It isn't the first time someone has survived a full chute malfunction.

I wonder what kind of fuel mileage she was getting

shite you not I was thinking of MJ2 this morning while rushing to work to kickoff a data job. I went over my usual 74mph on I-10 and chuckled as I looked at my avg mpg.
I know him IRL and it's even funnier.
