If it wasn't a panic attack, why did she scream out "let me down?"

I think the poor girl absolutely freaked out and lost all reasoning skills.

Very sad. May she rest in peace.

It’s the “call of the void”

I’ve had it happen to me where there’s a voice in your head telling you to jump, idk it’s weird

Obviously not dumb enough to act on it

“jump” is one thing. “Unbuckle your three part harness and wrestle yourself out” is quite another

There's things in psychology called the "High Places Phenomenon" and the "Call of the Void Phenomenon."

The first one... When in a high place, like a cliff or a rooftop or high elevation, some people cannot resist the urge to jump. It's like a hypnotic thing... people who have been restrained by others when they tried to jump can't describe what came over them, exactly, except it was like a panic attack. Part of fear of heights is thinking about falling, for some people it gets out of control.

Do you remember that art thing they built in NYC or Brooklyn a few years ago? Like a funnel shaped thing of steps that gave you great views of the city... and they had to close it pretty quickly because people kept jumping to their deaths from it... like high school kids there with their families, or people there with their spouses or partners... so not typical suicide scenarios.

For "The Call of the Void" Phenomenon, it's a broader urge to do anything that would harm yourself in a situation: drive into oncoming traffic, cut yourself when holding a knife, jump into dark water from a boat, electrocute yourself...

This weirds me out because I DON'T have these urges, at all... and when you read about them they say "it's normal... unless you can't stop yourself from doing them."

but the thing is that people with extra-high anxiety levels sometimes seem not to be able to control their reactions to it.

I think this is why a lot of people kill themselves, especially with guns, that did not seem at all to be depressed or have a reason to be suicidal.

frick... people are fricked up, I guess...

I think this is just a more specific explanation of "intrusive thoughts." Everyone has intrusive thoughts. People with anxiety have them more frequently. Most people don't act on these and they just go away pretty quickly but I guess some people get fixated in them and even act upon them. It's a weird thing.

Who heard her? I read her friends saying that... was she live streaming it? They were on the beach... I haven't found a vid with sound...

Her friends on the beach. It is just what I read.

Maybe she was at a lower altitude when she screamed.

Man that’s terrible. Truly nightmare fuel where you do something unexpectedly and next thing you’re free falling and then wake up with a jolt.

This was a panic attack. Not suicide or a freaking influencer attempt.

Some people are suggesting that she was doing it for social media clicks and didn’t intend to release the harness.

That's exactly what she was doing...no doubt.

If you told me the tow line was 500 ft I would probably believe you. If you told me you were 500 feet above the water I would not. ETA: I just fact checked myself, apparently they do go that high. Damn.

I have been in a parasail with 2,000 ft of line. Normal is 500-1200. There was one company that offered a Kevlar based line that was thinner and a 2000 ft spool would fit on the winch. When we installed new line we would fly each other and tighten it up on the winch by running it all the way out. To me 1200 ft of line is about the max I felt was safe, with the longer line the chute is really slow to respond and seemed to get into a lot of squirrely wind.

Looks like she wanted to remove her clothing down to her 2 piece swimsuit. Mistakenly unbuckled to strip down and fell to her death.
