True. But it’s even more basic than that.
You just need to remember one rule, whatever you do:
DONT LIVE IN MEMPHIS

For those of you who don't know, UofM is consistently rated the safest university campus in the state by the TBI.
I know people here who do not know Memphis love to say things about Memphis, but she was abducted in an extremely unlikely location.

this wasn't random
"Inside job" and "not random" mean different things to me.
Inside job means you think she did this to herself. Or she planned it with a family member. Or her husband did it for insurance money.
Not random just means premeditated. That someone had been staking her out and planned the crime for days or weeks. As opposed to just some weirdo cruising around in his van who made an impulsive choice

I live in a very safe part of central MS, I leave for work at sun up, and there is often a very attractive young gal out jogging wearing a very minimal amount of clothes. How easy would it be for someone in a van or SUV to scoop her up? We all have to be careful, especially attractive females who are in remote locations alone.

Apparently she’s from a super wealthy family so I’m wondering if it might be for ransom.
She is. She actually graduated high school with my sister. But, when things like this happen in Memphis are for ransom, that random demand usually happens pretty quickly. Usually it’s a bunch of thugs that grab someone and hold them at gunpoint at an ATM or call their father/husband demanding money, not kidnapping someone without a trace. That no one has heard anything is pretty frightening

It could be that they are just being reported more, but it seems like there have been more a lot of kidnappings or kidnapping attempts happening lately.
I see someone posted the same exact thing in an earlier post.

You just described all of midtown Atlanta.

These seems to be the board's solution every time something bad happens somewhere.
Can someone recommend a place to live where nothing bad will ever happen?

I don’t want to take it here but you seem naive and stupid so I’ll break it down for you. Not in majority black cities in Tennessee, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas and Florida. There’s a lot of white areas to go job in all day, but I wouldn’t go pick up my cardio in inner Atlanta, Jackson MS or fricking Memphis.

Teach your wife/daughters to not do this. Plenty of abductions where the guy watched a woman do the same thing every day. Especially jogging.

Literally thousands of people do so daily with no incident.

Someone being kidnapped like she was without a trace isn’t commonplace anywhere. This isn’t your typical victim of a crime in a major SE city. Something like this could happen anywhere. Jogging alone in the dark is a bad idea for other reasons but not being kidnapped like she was. Getting mugged and possibly hurt in the process? Sure.
Hell there was a girl years ago followed about 20 miles back to her house in the nearly all white burbs of Memphis. She was attacked, thrown in the trunk of her car, and her father called for ransom money. There are abductions/kidnappings in Lilly-white areas, in BFE, etc. Those aren’t the day-to-day crime concerns of living in a predominantly black city. Getting shot during an attempted robbery, getting your car stolen, burglaries, being on the wrong end of a stray bullet, etc are the day-to-day concerns. Not this

We have a pit mix- like mutt that can look intimidating to some that the wife will jog with for this very reason.
But don't tell anyone that the dog is a big wuss that is afraid of even kittens
