The woman, Eliza Fletcher, 34, was jogging around 4:20 a.m. when an "unknown individual" approached her and forced her into an SUV in the area of Central Avenue and Zach H Curlin Street, Memphis police said in a statement.

Fletcher's personal items have been recovered but she has not been found. At the time of the kidnapping, she was wearing purple jogging shorts and a pink top.
Police were called to the university just before 8 a.m. to assist campus police, and are urging anyone with information to call 911.

Abducted Eliza Fletcher: Memphis teacher's husband spotted day after her disappearance

The Memphis Police Department's search for abducted kindergarten teacher Eliza Fletcher continued Saturday, more than 24 hours after her disappearance.
Fletcher, an avid athlete, was on a run early Friday morning on Central Avenue near the University of Memphis when she was abducted and forced into an SUV that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) later identified as a GMC Terrain.
MPD told Fox News Digital on Saturday that it does not currently have a license plate for the suspect vehicle and that a blurry photo TBI released Friday is the only available footage of the SUV in question.
"The investigation into the abduction of Eliza Fletcher is still active and ongoing. Investigators are continuing the search and following all leads. No arrests have been made relative to this case," Memphis police said in a Saturday afternoon tweet.

Fletcher's husband, Richard Fletcher III, was outside his family's Memphis home Saturday morning with several other people.
Fletcher III initially reported his wife missing Friday morning around 7:45 a.m. when she never returned from her run.
Update: man arrested

A man has been arrested in connection with the abduction of a Memphis woman who never returned from her early morning jog, police said.
The Memphis Police Department announced via Twitter early Sunday that 38-year-old Cleotha Abston has been charged with especially aggravated kidnapping and tampering with evidence.
quote:
Police said they detained Abston on Saturday evening after he was found inside an SUV that authorities were searching for in connection with the abduction. A public information officer told ABC News that they could not share where the vehicle of interest was located at this time.
A second individual, identified as 36-year-old Mario Abston, who is currently not believed to be linked to the abduction, was also arrested on drug and firearm charges, according to police.

Jeezus. Talk about a horrifying ordeal with a very little chance for a survivable outcome.

Imagine the energy it takes to get up and jog at 4:30 am knowing you are in Memphis. Then some POS grabs you.
Frick this world.

This really sucks. It could just be increased coverage, but it feels like kidnappings are happening more often.

Apparently she’s from a super wealthy family so I’m wondering if it might be for ransom. I’d almost rather that be the case than it be sexually motivated.

Horrifying. tPOS more than likely

Where she got abducted is a very nice and safe part of town.
Sometimes evil just finds a way.

What does that mean?
She's from a very prominent family. And she runs the same route at the same time every morning. So it's likely a premeditated crime.

This is actually what it’s starting to look like. Who is the one it more than likely ends up being when something happens to the wife?

While we are throwing out crazy unsubstantiated theories, maybe the whole thing was staged so she could run away with a lover like Sherri Papini did.

Even wilder, maybe she never really existed at all.

In that part of Memphis, was she jogging or running from something. I would not run there in the dark. Too close to the hood that is South Memphis

When we trained in the marine corps on target acquisition dealing with high profile people, when we pulled up on someone within 10 seconds they were zip tied, and heads covered.
By the time the person jogging even realized what was going on, they had been thrown in the vehicle.
If a couple people pull a few practice runs it’s really easy to pull off snatching someone up.

According to publicly available safety data on the city's website, there have been at least 100 incidents classified as kidnappings that have occurred this year in Memphis.

You’d be surprised how many pieces of trash are rolling through nice neighborhoods between 3-5:00 am.

As has been said for years…do NOT allow yourself to go to a secondary crime scene. You fight like Hell on the spot.
