He is a medical specialist and is hyper-focused on managing his specialty aspect of this event.
He is looking at it through the narrow lens of his profession and neglecting all other aspects.

I think the whole shutting down the world bit is going to be a one shot deal.
People may be willing to roll with it for a while if they see it as a black swan event (and if they ever see some of that 2 trillion dollars in money to pacify them) but people aren't going to be as willing to do this all over again in November or December, absent the second wave putting up Black Death type numbers.
People want predictability.

It may not be just a few. The numbers may rise significantly. We as a country will have to accept the reality of this situation: hundreds of thousands may die or we destroy are economy. Hopefully we get a lull over the summer and treatments arrive before we possibly have to face that choice

Its really starting to hit a lot of people in other industries now so I think you'll see the calls to end it really start like mid April.

Idk, I'll go as long as it's recommended. I can still go for drives/walks/bike rides. I have a talent for not interacting with other humans IRL for extremely long stretches.
Although, it's sad seeing a ghost town downtown. I like when people have the city alive. I don't partake in it too much, but I like to be a fly on the wall sometimes.

I don’t think that will happen, but only because this thing won’t be going on for a prolonged period of time. If it were to be a government enforced service in place doctrine for something like a year, I think it’s delusional to think there wouldn’t be widespread civil unrest and violence.

Sure. I think that's plausible if this dragged on for half a year but I doubt that. The initial outbreak will taper down and, as someone else mentioned, testing will be greatly improved and resources can be allocated to 'strike teams' that head to one hotspot or another.
But if it ever came to civil unrest, unless the armed forces are somehow flipped, no mob riot would be capable of overthrowing the government.

I believe Dr. Fauci has peoples best interests in mind from a health perspective. After all that is his job and expertise. But his opinion and view is only one part of the equation. For Trump or whoever is president, they have to attack this and manage all aspects of the situation, not just the health aspect. They know people have to be able to work and make a living.

That is my concern too. I just don't understand the end game. Absent a vaccine, this thing is going to be with us until we get some herd immunity. I am afraid that we have no choice but to take the casualties.

I thought about that this evening. Boise's downtown in a very lively place. Usually you can't find parking and people are EVERYWHERE. The streets were deserted tonight and I was just looking at all those small business, many of which we've patronized over the past couple of years, and I just felt a twinge of sadness.
