Who are you to determine if a parent's reasoning is "good?"
The school counselor. She knows what’s best for your child, it’s her job.

So there’s not really a good reason to opt-out.
You don’t have to opt out. If you live in Florida, you can opt in.

sure. head on over to Libs of TikTok’s instagram or Twitter page. It’s littered with videos and presentations by teacher’s or them whining about not being able to have these conversations.

You're still not getting it. It doesn't matter what the reason is. It should be the parent's right to opt-out for *their* children.
*Their* children. Not yours. Not the school's. Not the government's.

OMG sounds like the disease is spreading as many had feared.
Same with California ppl moving from there to Tx.
Some will bring their idiocy with them and the others will be moving away from California to avoid the idiocy.

The proper response, if it truly doesn't happen and doesn't matter, should have been "Ok DeSantis, make your stupid law and virtue signal to your constituents, because it's a pointless law".
But that's not what happened. Why?
But honestly, why even make laws about it if it's pointless? I thought we hated pointless bills and laws?

You're the one arguing it's pointless

It's not directed at you personally, or even at your profession. It's at the prevailing idea on the left that the school system has more input on the raising of a child than the parents.
But we’ve pushed the system to do that as a whole and I don’t know how we get back from that. Most teachers I know would be happy to just be able to teach your basic subjects/content and not have to feel responsible for many of the other things that have been put on their plate.
I think we saw it magnified during online instruction. Parents here threw an absolute fit to have the district still feed kids, still clothe kids, and to have family resource coordinators come in to do home visits. Some of the same ones asking for schools to be less involved in their child’s lives outside of academia.

But if it was truly pointless, why did the left lose their fricking minds over it, and why did Disney get involved?
The louder the left protests this stuff, the more it sounds like it's not really that pointless after all, now isn't it?

Conservatives say it’s not.
Progressives say it is. Yet still fight it tooth and nail like it’s the second coming of the Nuremberg laws

I'll give you my take.
It's a shot across the bow. It's open hostility toward a class of people openly hostile to us (traditional, faith-based Americans). It's encroachment on turf long ceded to progressive efforts (education, mental health) resulting in predictable panic and sky screaming.
Is it a solution in search of a problem? Not quite, although I get the claim. I don't think it's common for school counselors to coach 6 year olds to transgenderism. Do I think it happens? Yes. Do I think it's a sliding scale, where plenty of counselors and teachers will be ready and waiting should your child show any vulnerability to instruction on these topics, antiracism topics, etc.? Yes. DeSantis is cutting against almost every institution in this country that has promoted or gone along with destructive ideas. Corporations, federal government, state government bureaucracies, unions, academia, Hollywood....sometimes, sadly, the church.
So in my opinion, that's why you make the law.
