this has to be bad going forward correct? I mean what are the positives other than owning Disney stock? It already cost a fortune to go to the disney parks. That will only go up. I mean will it get to the point where almost every major blockbuster film at the theater will be a disney flick? will all TV be a disney production? Didnt they already push their agenda for the new star wars movie?
quote:

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, the rules for the Star Wars sequel have been called “unprecedented,” including an increased cut of ticket sales and specific rules on which auditoriums can show the film. While most studios take in 55 to 60 percent of ticket sale revenue from new releases, Disney wants 65 percent of ticket revenue from The Last Jedi. That’s up from 64 percent for the last two Star Wars movies. The rules also require theaters to screen The Last Jedi in their biggest auditoriums for a minimum of four weeks. (That’s a rule Disney has implemented for its previous Star Wars releases.) Finally, theaters may not market the movie before Disney gives approval. Seem like a bit much? There’s an even bigger catch. Disney can take an additional 5 percent of ticket sales from any theater that breaks the rules. This means the company could take up to 70 percent of ticket revenue from any rule-breaker.

I can’t help but feel that they’ve just about already as big as they are going to get.

If they get much bigger, they will start getting looked at by the DoJ for anti Trust issues.

Disney’s posturing with Last Jedi isn’t any different than the shite Lucas pulled with the prequel trilogy.

Unfortunately, a guaranteed blockbuster can pull this shite and the past has shown that distributors will give in rather than lose to a competitor who will.

There will finally be a one stop shop streaming/OTT service where you can get most, if not all, of the relevant content.

They have a ton of overhead. I’ve heard as much as half their profits go just to keeping his head frozen.

I say the same thing every time they buy another big entertainment company but it should make people nervous when companies start getting this much market share because eventually it will be passed to the customer. Not that it hasn't been passed on already.

The movie theater will be a thing of the past soon anyway.

Movies will be released directly from the creator, to ISPs who will then rent them to their consumers.

The Mouse has been hanging out with Goofy too long because the Theatres just won't show Star Wars movies.

How is this any different than what the Carriers are doing? Everyone is in mass hysteria right now. Not a peep about this though.

There isn't a theater in this country that won't be showing the Star Wars movie.

Legally they really can’t buy much more in the way of broadcasting, be it over the air or cable.

What they can continue to do is pursuing content but there is a theoretical upper limit on that.

It’s highly unlikely they are able to buy the TV or film libraries of Time Warner, NBC Universal, or Viacom (Paramount).

They could still buy up independents or a small time studio like Lionsgate or MGM.

Sony Pictures is in a weird place between the two, as it theoretically could be acquired with minimal antitrust concerns but the likelihood of Sony getting out of entertainment seems pretty small since they have used Playstation as a media platform as much as a gaming system.

Movies Anywhere will get you a good bit closer to this right now.

Which is also Disney though they have partnered with other studios.

I prefer Ultraviolet if only because Disc To Digital is available on a high percentage of titles.

Movies Anywhere / Keychest offers portability for digital films but doesn’t allow you to get digital rights cheaply for titles you physically own.
