I really dont like conglomeration of media. It really paves the way for propaganda machines to take hold of a country, its people, its government. A functioning Republic relies on impartial reporting and coverage of news and facts and freedom of artistic expression in entertainment and that relies on competition and market diversity. Nope. Theaters provide an viewing experience that can't be duplicated at home, especially for movies with a lot of special effects/action. They aren't going away anytime soon.

This acquisition (not a merger) also gives them controlling interest in Hulu, so that gets them most of the way there in regards to launching a streaming service.

On the flip side it probably isn't a good time to own Netflix stock. I believe Disney is doing this in part to stack their deck for when they launch their stand-alone streaming service. All ABC shows, plus FOX properties, and an endless movie catalog.
