Progressives will talk about their policies as if it is new ideas. At the birth of our nation one of the founders knew the true enemy of a free and prosperous nation.
"To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes, the propagation of ideas which he?? disbelieves and abhors, is sinful and tyrannical." -- Thomas Jefferson
"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not." -- Thomas Jefferson
"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people, under the pretense of taking care of them." -- Thomas Jefferson
.........................................................
Context for the quotes so you can see how he thinks based on his writings.
"I... place economy among the first and most important of republican virtues, and public debt as the greatest of the dangers to be feared." --Thomas Jefferson to William Plumer, 1816. ME 15:46
"No tax should ever be yielded for a longer term than that of the Congress wanting it except when pledged for the reimbursement of a loan." --Thomas Jefferson to John Wayles Eppes, 1813. ME 13:355
"We are endeavoring... to reduce the government to the practice of a rigorous economy, to avoid burthening the people and arming the magistrate with a patronage of money, which might be used to corrupt and undermine the principles of government." --Thomas Jefferson to Mr. Pictet, 1803. ME 10:356

And people wonder why libs seek to erase TJ from the history books.

I saw yesterday during the Pelosi stuff that they still use his directions on Congress disciplines. We are privileged to have had such leaders with foresight and intelligence start this country for us.

I think he owned slaves though.
So pull his statues down, and ignore his existence. He must be scrubbed from everything. We have a responsibility to not teach our kids about him.
Am I doing this right?

All history must be erased before we can take the next Great Leap Forward.
Or so I've been told.

Can you imagine Thomas Jefferson or any of the other founding fathers living in today's climate?

I know I am going to get down-voted to hell and back for this by those that misunderstand my point, but oh well. Historical quotes taken on their own are largely worthless. Without context they have no meaning.
Let's try to take another TJ quote out of context:
Uh-oh.
Taken out of context, that can be a fairly hypocritical statement from a slave owner.
You can't just pick and choose quotes from the past that fit your ideas today anymore than you can project your ideas today back to the past.

Were any of those quotes taken out of context?

In which way are the quotes posted taken out of context? Has the meaning of taxes, labor or government overreach changed in meaning?
If you actually read the quote you posted you will realize he was talking about the majority of the human race...not referring to each person's ability or intellect as being equal. Equal in the sense that we are all created by a creator and born into this world and will all die the same way. And the amount of time we each have should allow us to have certain individual rights and liberties not to be imposed upon by tyranny.

quote:Sure you can, we can always look to history with some amount of certainty but the future is always unknown.

Just because conservatism doesn't fit your personal agenda doesn't allow wise men's words from the past to be summarily dismissed by you.

He used his white privilege to seduce slaves
Maga, right?

Yes, every single one, since there is no context given with them.
Nevermind the fact that you cannot compare the issues of the late 18th and early 19th centuries with those of the 21st.
Just as it is true that you cannot take your present-day ideas and place them in the past, the opposite is also true.

I’ll give you some context. Jefferson was a huge fiscal conservative. Government out of the lives of the people except to protect them from each other or foreign threats. Now, check out those quotes.

Typical rebuttal... Thank you for your opinion.
