From James Spann tweet:

A cold pattern sets up for the eastern half of the U.S. in a week or so. Pro tip: if you see someone posting a big snow storm on deterministic model output 10-15 days out, do us all a favor and don’t click, like, or share.

Hahaha...Spann interacts with many of the winter weather fanatics in the piedmont and foothills of the Appalachians. He wrote that almost certainly just to troll them.

Snowed in Paris yesterday. If I remember correctly a cold Western Europe usually correlates to a cold South and Eastern US.

Maybe some one can give validity to this with some terminology.

GFS is showing a day time high of around 40 in Baton Rouge on the 13th, and I'm seeing 28 degrees by midnight.

Weather channel is at 63 and 46

ALSO 28 DEGREES at NOON on the 14th!

That looks pretty damn cold for us here in Middle TN. We rarely see those temps all winter, but if we do it's normally late January/February.

Get your evacuation plans in order, fill your car with gas and make copies of your flood insurance policies!

Hope that’s true and the weather gets colder for a while. It’s getting old having to change into 3 different seasons of clothes in a 24 hour period.

Even if it doesn't get that cold, well be around average or slightly below from 7 December until the end of the month.

The GFS has been holding on to this cold pocket with moisture all week.
For the most part this fall/winter, GFS temperature forecast has been on point once within 10-12 days. Weather Channel tries to hold off on temperature decrease until 3-4 days out. It has happened for every front so far.
Also note temps in teens for December 16

Yeah, they're typically quite conservative ten days out.

I'd love to have a repeat of the December '08 snow on the Northshore.

Not gonna hold my breath, though.

Maybe. I really don't know. But in this case he seems to be accurately tweeting on what the Euro is showing. One of many models, so grain of salt.

There is a -NAO right now (warm high over Greenland) so that typically means either or both W Europe/E US is cold and stormy.

We're getting some run to run consistency on signal for cold and possibly icy precip. Teleconnects are playing nice thus far. Might just have a right proper cold snap to get ready for Christmas.
