Last year Christmas was outright disgusting. In the 80s for almost a week. I like it cold, but I'll at least settle for seasonal averages. Temps in the 70s in January piss me off. And there's nothing like a good frz rain/sleet/snow threat to liven things up around an otherwise boring time of year.

Oh and if it's not going to be cold here, I'm always pulling for a good blizzard during a playoff game.

My first couple years at LaTech ('82-'83) were shorts and t-shirts through the whole winter pretty much.

Then had a REAL cold winter where most of E.Tex and all of N.La. from Alexandria north was frozen over in ice and snow for 10 days in a row or longer. High temps hovering around 20 degrees for a week in Ruston.

There was a year it was so cold when picked my sister up at Tulsa airport for Christmas on bright sunny clear day when we turned to leave it was a blizzard outside the front door. Then we noticed was just the one door area. Walked out and looked back, the heat transfer unit that usually produces a bunch of steam was instead producing snow as the steam froze just an inch or 2 above the vent, piling snow up rapidly.

The last 3 Christmases have been warm af. In 2014 we had tornado warnings. 2015 it was basically foggy because the dewpoint and temps were practically identical, last year was just warm. Thanksgiving weather last week was terrific.

Probably get ice a week before Christmas and then it'll be back to 75 in time for the 25th

16 days out... I'm sure it will verify. Gassing up the generator now.

This is the type of set up that might verify, but it's too far out to put much stock in it yet.

Oh yeah, we're wayyy too far out for this to be accurate. But the models seem to be consistently bringing cooler temps this way in about a week, we'll see if any snow actually happens here this winter

I just like looking at the models and seeing the blue on there for winter, have no idea what causes these setups

This upcoming pattern is legit. The cold air could stick around until Christmas or longer. I'm actually somewhat optimistic that we might see some winter weather here in DFW at some point. It's just hard to argue against a signal this strong in the Euro EPS.

I'm with rds dc here.
Even though it's many days out, it's rare to see this kind of agreement between three models. Cold is coming, now moisture?? Who knows...

Models are showing cold starting middle of next week and persisting through at least mid month and likely beyond for everyone east of the Rockies. There is blocking developing over Greeenland (-NAO), Arctic (-AO), West Coast (+PNA) and Alaska (-EPO). For Texas, I am hoping to see a weaker PNA and NAO so the cold would be more Plains based. For Texas, the best snows usually come from - to = PNA so we have a low over the SW.

The best site for discussing Texas weather is Storm2k and AmericanWX is great overall.

GFS is still hinting at some winter precip in a few weeks. The last few runs have gotten a little more consistent with something around the 15th or 16th. Still a hell of a long time out but something to keep and eye on as we get closer. I think Shaqs free throw shooting is more accurate than predicting winter weather in the south.

I had just turned 1...
I'd love to be able to experience that in Louisiana.
Coldest stretch since then might have been the ice storm in 2014 or January 2010.
I do remember a high in the 20s during the mid 90s however.

Yep, three days of sub freeze weather... Started with 2" of snow just before Christmas.. Lake Pontchatrain had ice on it...

Went to our camp, on the West Pearl River Christmas night, and broke ice in the canal from the launch to the river.
