There's a pretty big difference between accumulating that amount of wealth over a lifetime and becoming that rich overnight.

Idk. It would depend on what class of people you associate with beforehand, how smart you are, how much you would want to flaunt it. For most lotto winners like I described earlier it's probably a good option

I know. Still better to claim when media attention is elsewhere.

Could you go down to the local Regions Bank and deposit / transfer $700 million into a checking account?

Not what I would do however. I'd get me a solid trust set up with a well respected trustee at a bank and let him kick me money every so often.

Dude probably had a heart attack after finding out he won.

There's a pretty funny movie about this called Waking Ned Devine where an old man in a small Irish village wins a huge lottery and dies of shock. The rest of the town gets together to try to convince the lottery that someone else in the town is actually the winner so they can all split the profits.

I realize the interest on $700 millions is quite a bit, but if I won that much I would take all of the time I needed to set everything up. If I happen to miss out on several million $ in interest, at least I've got $700 million to fall back on

Not when it comes to living your life in hiding from fear of kidnapping and murder

Seems smart on the surface but consider how many private dicks are about to be hired to comb the area around where the ticket was bought and dig up everything they can find in hopes of turning over the ticket.

There's a difference between building up wealth to be a billionaire and going from a regular schmuck to a billionaire overnight. I don't know the person isn't already wealthy but the odds say they probably are. Almost none to none of their friends are wealthy, the person doesn't know what to do with that kind of money. It could easily destroy a person. It's like a pro athlete or an actor going from broke to millionaire then ending up broke down the road.

or
...
wife cleaned his jacket pockets.
4 movie ticket stubs.
3 grocery receipts. And the crumpled winner.

Life goes on.

Or the person put it in their pants pocket and forgot to remove the tickets before putting the pants in the wash.
